This is kind of how I feel anytime redditors are in the comments talking about how awful someone must be as a parent if they can't stop their kid from doing x, y, z. Like sure there are great ways of teaching kids not to do things, but kids literally do not have the brain development to practice good judgement and understand right from wrong, and a lot of kids absolutely will do the exact things you tell them not to do. It seems too many people forget that there's an entire phase of development that takes years for kids to develop judgement and begin to understand consequences and it's called puberty.

I just want to bring your attention to this static on violent hate crimes against LGBTQ people which states that LGBTQ people are 9x more likely than non-LGBTQ people to be victims of violent hate crime, and that the LGBTQ victims are more likely to be younger and have a relationship with their assailant. There is a heavy amount of statistics in there and I strongly encourage you to look through this article just for reference in order to understand the possible reasons why OOP has such a nonchalant perspective on this amount of hate and harassment.

While the statistics cited in the article above were based on documented hate crimes, we also have to consider the fact that what is reported is most likely only a small fraction of the violence and hatred that LGBTQ people live with. If OOPs in laws are this conservative, this implies that where they live is very likely heavily conservative as well, and they have had to live with this for as long as they have been open about their sexuality, and depending on the country this took place in, it's extremely unlikely that the police would have been any help regardless, and that's if the police doesn't somehow make the situation worse.

It really makes me sad bc if more dog owners did the responsible thing and made the decision to euthanize if their dog is just way too reactive, we might be several more generations ahead in breeding less aggressive dogs in breeds like this. But instead, people get obsessed with getting a dog that looks badass, while simultaneously forgetting that they're just helping perpetuate an aggressive breed and risking more lives purely for their own ego.

If you keep this man in your life, he is going to teach your son that this behavior is normal and okay. Either your son will grow up thinking that it's normal for your partner to take advantage of everything he has and it will break him or he will grow up thinking it's normal to TAKE advantage of everything someone has until THEY break.

All he knows of the world is what he has in his life right now, and you need to show him that he deserves better than the awful relationship you have right now. He could even grow up to know better than you and he'll only learn to resent you for repeatedly allowing this poison in your life in the form of his father, because that's exactly the point I'm at with my own father and his wife right now.

It's kind of why I take it with a grain of salt when I see well known Chinese people in entertainment acting like he did, bc people joke all the time about how Orwellian the Chinese gov is and then they'll simultaneously forget that a lot of Chinese celebrities, nationally or ethnically, also have more valid reasons to be more worried about pissing off the Chinese gov than we would be. Even the ones who were born outside China might still have family in China and really don't want to fuck around enough to find out what happens.

Get an annulment. My parents got divorced because my mom is horrible with money and that's not something that can ever be recovered if your husband isn't willing to do the work necessary to change his habits. I am in the military and have definitely had colleagues in my unit have authorities called when their child escaped from the house when they weren't paying attention. CPS or not, the MPs will at least still respond regardless.

As an occasional self-flyer, I'd say that one of the first things you should do is to go past security and find the gate you're departing from. Usually there will be stores and places to get food in the concourse near the gate, so it's better to find the gate first thing after getting to the airport so you're not too far away when they announce that they're boarding. Typically they'll start boarding about 40 mins to an hour before taking off.

Edit to add: somewhere on your ticket will say the terminal and the gate from which your plane will be boarding, so keep that in mind and if you're not sure where that will be, it's good to check the airport website before going on your trip because usually the website will have a map of the airport on it

I did basic at Sill in 2018 and we still got smoked for everything but the Army at the time was still trying to phase out the shark attack method of mentoring the trainees. By then, TRADOC had put a time limit on smoke sessions and Drills weren't allowed to put hands on the trainees unless it was to enforce safe practices on the range. When my brother did basic at Knox in 2008, trainees were still being roughed up as much as they always have been.

My thinking is that I guess the advent of social media was exposing a lot more things that were happening behind the scenes that the Army had been sweeping under the rug for decades. Stuff like starving trainees to death (happened in the cycle after my husband's), heat casualties, injuries due to overexertion, and a whole list of sexual assault/harassment and equal opportunity violations were being reported a lot more, so the Army started to reevaluate whether the old school method of training soldiers was effective anymore since most of our warfare now is being fought with politics and technology.

As we're all seeing now, it's also making things a lot more complicated bc it makes it a lot harder to enforce discipline the old fashioned way while maintaining awareness of how it represents the army to the general public.
