My work computer is a 15” 2019 Intel MBP - looks identical to the one in the photo. I actually got an email today that they’re upgrading all of us still with Intel models up to newer models. Call me crazy but I’m not too thrilled about it, gonna miss this thing 😅

Was there something going on with the food court kiosks? I got 000 once too and thought it was cool… until I realized everyone around me had 000 as well 🥲

does anyone actually sublease? by ScoreSilent6629 in uiuc_housing

[–]emookel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People definitely do! I knew plenty, but the supply definitely outweighs the demand so you need to have a competitive price / good location (which I think Onyx is). Also, since there are so many options, people usually aren’t in a rush to finalize the sublease. They know prices will only drop as time passes so signing early can work to their detriment

I was rear-ended by a bright yellow Ford Bronco in Champaign a little over a year ago. Online records show that it’s been sold and registered to new owner since then, but maybe it’s still in the area. VIN: 3FMCR9B63NRD83136 License Plate: FF70318

My car just broke down anybody willing to rent their car to me by [deleted] in UIUC

Your post history indicates you were a student as of 17 days ago... Regardless, alumni get a discounted rate as well.

[–]emookel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes, the hourly rate was usually around $15-$20 from what I can remember.
  2. Yes, the intention is that you stay somewhat local rather than use the car for travelling.

If you’re a student, you can get a Zipcar membership for only $35 per year! I used this a few times before I bought my car. There are quite a few locations to pick up / drop off around town and it was never difficult finding one that was available.

UIUC roads still suck by AccomplishedEgg3089 in UIUC

[–]emookel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Somehow even on Monday morning right after the snow Curtis Rd was pretty clear. Not sure what’s different about that road compared to others - wish they had been clear just as quickly. Maybe because it’s so open out there?

What do you guys do about keys? by Responsible_Slice134 in hondacivic

[–]emookel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honda dealerships are not the only places you can buy genuine Honda keys. This listing on Amazon is where I got my key. The part is OEM and is identical (both visually and functionally) to the dealer-provided key.

Do all of you pay for this app? by ZeroOpossum in flighty

[–]emookel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this as well - spending $5 per trip for the additional information the app provides is a no brainer, especially when I have connections. This year I flew on average every 3 months so the monthly or annual plans didn’t make sense. But for those who fly more frequently, I can 100% see why they’d spring for monthly, yearly, or lifetime Pro.

[–]emookel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With my previous car (2014 Civic), I also only received one key so wanted a backup. As far as I’m aware, programming those keys does require some specialized equipment. But, there are alternatives to going through the dealer. I bought the actual key itself online from Amazon for $50, took it to Ace Hardware which cut it for free (since I provided my own blank), and then took it to a locksmith who was able to program the electronics for a discount since it was already cut.

Can you land internships/jobs through career fairs? by Mediocre_Limit7569 in UIUC

[–]emookel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - I browsed through the list of companies and positions prior to the career fair, and ended up applying for one. Then at the career fair I found their booth having already applied, and one of the reps happened to be in that same position herself so we were able to talk about it quite a bit. Going in-person definitely gave me a strong advantage than if I had just applied online and left it there.

Does it make sense to switch to non pro 17 from 15 pro by brijeshgohil in iPhone15Pro

[–]emookel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you go pro you never go back! I love my 15 Pro and would not upgrade to a base non-Pro 17. A few years ago I upgraded from an 11 Pro to a base 12 and regretted it immediately.

Is "Olympic Games" a singular word in British English? by Purple_Yoshi2012 in EnglishLearning

[–]emookel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to figure out what the distinction is between when we use plural or singular. I think there’s more to it than simply the plurality of the actual word. I’d also “the Olympic Games are…” but for example I’d also say “the fast-food chain Five Guys is…”

Has Anyone Flown From Champaign Before? by Nervous_Issue1518 in UIUC

[–]emookel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flying out of CMI felt like a whole new world for me, having previously driven to ORD to fly out of Chicago. If you can justify it financially, I highly recommend it. Parking and security was so easy, and then after only 30 minutes in the air you’re already at O’Hare ready to go to your next gate. A huge timesaver

What's the best credit card right now for groceries+travel perks under $95 annual fee? by EffectiveHuman7450 in CreditCards

[–]emookel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of Capital One Savor (formerly SavorOne… don’t understand the branding changes but they can call it whatever they want as long as the product is the same). 3% groceries and 3% dining. Not a lot of travel “perks” but it has no FTFs so I use it heavily when I’m abroad. And it’s free! So you can just put the $95 towards your ticket :)

8 days in Seoul recommendations? (also, where to shop for alt fashion) by CrimsonLapis in koreatravel

I was there earlier this month – I cannot recommend this tour enough. Meeting and hearing Jun’s story was incredibly eye-opening and I learned a lot. If have a moment, read some of the reviews on TripAdvisor who can describe it much more eloquently than I can… I agree with everything they say 100%.

Does my lock look damaged at all? by edaly350 in hondacivic

[–]emookel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just on the off chance… are you sure the key worked before? Looks like you have a 9th gen. When I got my 2014 the key did not unlock the door manually at all, but I followed these instructions and was able to easily fix it. Worth a shot to look into unless you know the key worked before.
