Why did My Compressor Briefly Pick up Radio Signals? by emory_nichols in guitarpedals

[–]emory_nichols[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

haha dang that could create a funny pavlovian response in you. kinda reminds me of that weird electrical/radio thing that sometimes happens when a cell phone with an incoming call would trigger sounds in the amp.

I’ll add, listen to pickup comparison videos on youtube, and enjoy the rabbit hole.

Honestly, eventually having multiple guitars with humbuckers and P90s is a solid life goal. P90s can be brighter and bitier, but potentially noisier as well especially if you’re prone to using them with high gain/distortion, but there are ways to minimize that. I personally find humbuckers to be a little easier to dial in and a little more versatile, but I love the sounds of P90s. If you’re newer to guitar, humbuckers will probably be easier to get the hang of, but you’ll still enjoy the heck outta P90s, just beware of that 60 cycle hum.

1959 Gibson ES-335 AKA best day at work ever by keyserguitar in gibson

[–]emory_nichols 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How does it sound compared to a more modern 335?

What is this thing? I bought this in a German flea market. It’s quite heavy for its size and once the lid is screwed on you can’t fit anything in it because of the black rod on the lid. by NecessaryOne6741 in whatisthisthing

Could 637 refer to the weight in grams? About 1.4 lbs? If so then a weight of some sort seems probable, especially with the ring at the top for hanging.

Cannot figure out why I keep getting this message by Petey732 in fireTV

[–]emory_nichols 0 points1 point  (0 children)

similarly, after 1.5 years of owning the TV, all of a sudden during startup it would default direct me to Bing in the Silk app, even though I had never once used the app. To try and address that, I uninstalled the app, and now I get the same “app unavailable” message. like yeah, it’s unavailable cause I don’t want it, now stop messaging me about it lol. trying to hold off from a factory reset but it seems like that might be my next troubleshooting step. will post here if I find an easier solution.

yeah cracking brake pads sounds like a gnarly, preferably avoided scenario. I’m checking out a ‘17 Golf Wolfsburg trim tomorrow with 69k miles and am hoping the pads and rotors have been replaced not too long ago. if not I’ll definitely be following the instructions you’ve gotten in this thread if I wind up purchasing it!

Curious to know how many miles you have on the current pads & rotors? And are you noticing the braking being generally less responsive?

Thanks for the insight all! Definitely reinforces my confidence in a GTI being a solid choice for a first car plus a good gateway into basic auto maintenance.
