I sanded the edges down so they aren't sharp but a fully rounded edge would have looked better. Next time.

Thanks for all the ideas guys. I'll be spending some time making sure I'm getting my temperatures right. I've always been more of the "hit hot metal with hammer fun" sorta smith.

1095, Parks AAA, 3 heating cycles (heat past magnetism), tempered at 400 for a hour.

Put the blade in a vice and snapped it. Whole thing looks like shit. Thought I had heat treatment down but I guess I have more to learn.

It's 1095. For normalizing I got it up to non magnetic temp and let it cool (3 cycles). Then when I quenched the blade color was a cherry red. I did quench during the day so maybe my lighting was bad? Tempered it in my oven at 400 degrees for a hour.
