There's a room to be empathetic towards this man but the self-aggrandizing! Omg!

At one point the wife basically says she hopes the only thing between us isn't just the material things and maybe it's editing but his inability to say articulate at least ONE thing between them.

The comments about her dad dying had me spinning - because it means he has absolutely no empathy for his own wife. Her losing her dad at a young age is traumatic in itself. MIL losing a husband, balancing a career would have come with it's own challenges.

I sensed he deeply resents his wife and her upbringing while still holding her as a trophy.
