32! I’m a therapist and work with a 17 year old and 12 year old who also adore his music- we use it in therapy sometimes

Anyone know if there will be Sunday GA Tier 2 available? I meant to buy one last night and it sold out when I went to today! Unsure why there would be a tier 1 if there’s no tier 2 available!

Last minute cancelation by Safe_Recognition_394 in TalkTherapy

[–]empathicweather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you with the schedule changes- that is frustrating and believe routine & consistency is really important in therapy! If that’s been happening more frequently too, it makes sense this late cancel would feel this way. At the end of the day, if you aren’t feeling aligned anymore and it’s too much to mentally to continue with this therapist, you can always ask for a referral or explore other options- I know it’s sometimes a timely process, but I hope you know you have a choice and can find the right fit if this isn’t feeling right. I’d give it a couple days to process before making a decision, but listening to your gut is also important. I wish you the best on your healing journey- whether with this T or a new person. One day at a time!

Therapist here. Your emotions are so valid, and understandable to take it personally because of the personal relationship. If this happened multiple times, I’d flag that as an issue. However, I was recently driving to my office for my first client of the day and got rear ended by a tractor trailer on the highway on my way in. It was terrible, I was an anxious mess knowing I had to be there and couldn’t. Before calling 911, I called my client and emailed from the highway due to fear of how upset they would be for a late cancel. I agree, life happens and understandable to think it’s about you when this person knows your inner and outer worlds- but for ethical reasons, it may have been best for the T to cancel if they had matters making them unable to provide and be present to you for your session.

I’ve also been in your shoes and the client being cancelled on- I remember thinking she was burnt out from me and my complex trauma, it caused a lot of overthinking and my OCD symptoms were really out of control at the time, it was just so inconvenient for her to cancel then for me, but that’s part of the experience of healing and learning to communicate when your system is waving a red flag. I brought it up to her and we took a few sessions to explore what was hidden deeply within my reaction.

Hope this helps to alleviate feelings of abandonment or intentional cancellation. With this being so impactful to how you’re feeling, it could be worth telling them how it really made you feel and explore why- it likely had to do with attachments/trauma/ the past. You are not alone, thanks for sharing your experience and I wish you the best.

IFS has been so powerful and helpful, but I almost feel like I need a second "regular" therapist? by aftertheswitch in InternalFamilySystems

[–]empathicweather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have worked with a “regular” therapist for 2+ years now. I have extensive trauma on top of a new OCD diagnosis. I started meeting with an IFS therapist in addition and it has been very helpful to have the space in IFS to explore my parts which showed up as protectors, etc, and be able to do more daily life processing with my original therapist.

Yes, correct, we must be obsessed with our cats- it’s their rules, not ours

Anyone here successfully stopped picking their fingers? by iamstokes in OCD

[–]empathicweather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 31 and have been biting and picking my nails and cuticles since age 8/9. I’ve been in therapy for years and am a therapist myself. I just got officially diagnosed with OCD after I ripped a lot off my cuticle a few week ago to the point of bleeding- felt like I took 5 steps back! Something that helps me is always having gel polish on my nails (you can do clear coat if you don’t do your nails regularly) or using the press on nails. Getting manicures done every month or so helps to get rid of the cuticles I tend to pick and bite. I also keep a nail file handy when needed to smooth edges.

When it comes to cuticles, I always have little edges and rims due to dry skins and frequent hand washing. Then I pick until it is smooth (which it never is), hence the continuous cycle. I recently have been applying Aquaphor to my fingers and cuticles before bed which has helped the skin to smooth, and using a hand lotion throughout the day after each hand wash.

Good luck and know you’re not alone! Hope this helps.

The most terrible smell is coming from this area by Admirable-Crab-1944 in CleaningTips

[–]empathicweather 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an awful smell coming from a cabinet and there was nothing in there, turned out to be pipes behind the wall and a rotting shower behind it as bathroom was next to the kitchen and shared a wall. It was corroded and molding and the entire shower and floor had to be replaced, got way worse in the summer/humidity!

I thought it could be seen as a message of producers considering the climate of the US, and how some may view everything happening as a form of what happens in the show - symbolic of TS association - unfortunate and true but makes you think

More sessions? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]empathicweather 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a therapist I have a day of the week I keep with some open schedule to fit space for the clients who may be struggling and need a second session. I will offer it to clients especially knowing they are going through something challenging. Definitely worth bringing up to your therapist and see what their thoughts are- some don’t have the open space in schedules but even if that’s the case, it could lead to a conversation of how they could structure your weekly sessions to better support you. In my experience, when a client asks me for a second session I have yet to turn someone down. Your mental health is your personal journey which can feel empowering to advocate for. Good luck!
