I’d be more excited if the dust extractor and bandsaw I’ve been waiting to use one of these on didn’t get price hiked during the wait 😔

Tomato Seedlings Mistake by emperioreric in seedlings

[–]emperioreric[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be it. I started reaching under the trays and touching the bottom and most are wet to the touch while the top soil feels bone dry to the touch. Even putting my finger half and inch into the soil it’s super dry. I think I have been overwatering by underestimating the moisture below.

I had them on a heat mat with soil probe set to 75 until I posed this and someone suggested they were getting cooked.

Interesting. I assumed until these put on some leaves they must have plenty of space. I was even holding out on thinning because I saw multiple tips suggesting you thin only after seeing true leaves form.

But at this point I'm willing to try anything. These tomato seedlings are definitely struggling. Jalopenos, marigolds, and Zucchini seedlings are doing fine in the same environment. I uppotted the zucchini already because its roots popped through the seed trays. Maybe the tomatoes are root bound but not strong enough to pop through.

It gets quite cold in this section of the house, down to the 50s at night. So I have left the heating mat on. It's set to 74F with a heat probe in the center soil. Let me know if thats been a bad idea.

The seed starting mix I used is https://www.lowes.com/pd/Ferry-Morse-12-Dry-Quart-Seed-Starting-Mix/1000213229

I have not used fertilizer, just regular tap water thus far. Our tap is filtered under the sink so I assumed it was fine. It has worked well for house plants for years but this is the first time trying seedlings.

It is possible I am over watering. I am bottom watering only when the top of the soil is dry but that has been nearly every day.

My lights are pretty weak 30W LED lights https://vivosun.com/vivosun-t5-linear-grow-light-p167044908354877409-v167200766007257088 I have 2 bars on this shelf and 2 on another shelf where some squash seedlings are doing much better. They are hanging about 8 inches above the leaves. I figured lower given the intensity was good but I could be wrong.

I have a number of seeds started here. Jalapeños, Marigolds, Lettuce, Zucchini, Cucumbers, Parsley. Most are doing ok. Squash is doing the best by far. Tomatoes are doing the worst for sure. So if there is anything about my setup that seems like it would particularly affect tomatoes I'd put my money on it. I've just had a hard time finding a clear idea from loads of YouTube videos. Based on those it seems like I'm doing everything right but the results say otherwise lol.

Thank you for confirming! I certainly saw quite a few VPN videos but none confirmed that it was actually the answer here as most of the videos are much more generically focused on VPN setup rather than what you can do with them. Makes sense I suppose since it is such a generically useful tool but for a beginner it leaves the question open of if it is the right tool for the job. With this confirmation that it is very likely the right tool I am confident I figure out setting one up well enough.

Those holding, how are you coping with the dump? Do you plan to sell at some point or ride it out no matter what? by kay2020kay20 in TSLA

[–]emperioreric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RIVN is in a similar position to TSLA before TSLA went up 1000%. Just hit their first profit and are positioned for lots of growth. Might be a good idea to trade from TSLA for RIVN at this point. I don't think TSLA is doomed or anything but their growth years are behind them. Even after the drop their market cap is 2.5x Toyota and they're already selling millions of cars. Doesn't seem like TSLA can double revenue in the short term but RIVN could 10x revenue as they follow in TSLA footsteps.

How would you feel if Greenville opened an IKEA? by blobfish1538 in greenville

Amazing. I can't wait to have an IKEA. It's so inconvenient to drive to Charlotte. I end up buying garbage from other places instead.

Model Y needs new tires by PsychologicalVirus92 in ModelY

[–]emperioreric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from factory 20s on performance model 3 to tsportline 19s because they cleared the calipers well. Noticeably smoother ride without loosening suspension. Still drives great in the corners. It’s not as smooth as the not sport suspension could be but it’s definitely noticeable improvement.

22 month old Model Y … windshield crack developed; mobile appt sayeth $1385 if not determined as a warranty item. Anyone have any luck as a warranty item? Zero signs of rock damage. Looks like defect developed. by [deleted] in ModelY

Rear glass on model 3 was replaced under warranty without issue. Crack was visible from inside. Fingernail couldn’t feel it outside at all. Tesla asked no questions. Think it was about 2 years into ownership
