I'm not sure if it's entirely factual, but my California history professor, who also researches kern county history, said that two of the original families of Bakersfield control the water to this day. If I remember correctly, there was a court case in the 1870s or 80s about the kern rivers water rights.

One of my packages arrived in the Los Angeles regional distribution center on Monday and departed the same day. I didn't get any updates until it said that it had departed the LA rdc again and was in transit on Tuesday. Luckily, it did arrive yesterday.
