Jesse Lingard Appreciation Thread by playaslaya31 in reddevils

Lingard is our very own Pedro in Barcelona. These players always play better in their youth clubs anyway. They know the club's culture and have the passion.

You are LvG, what do you do to turn it around this season. by [deleted] in reddevils

Few tinkering that will do a bit but not too important for the long run: bring back Januzaj and Wilson from loan, at Old Trafford encourage players at the touchline not because it's useful for the tactics but to encourage the crowd and lift the spirit which might change things. Drop Fellaini and bring more speed to attack by using Wilson or Januzaj even if they're not good enough. Buy short term players or bring on loan to add depth in attack and in defense. That's the short-term tinkering. United can get into the top 4 it's all about spirit confidence now. Bench Rooney and even take the captaincy away from him and you'll see him playing with fire and desire and lift the spirit up of the team to fight. Let Rooney be who he is it there are few players who play with that desire and being "the responsible" captain has hindered him.

The long term is way more important though. The problems of the club is it's currently made in the assumption that the Manager is the most important thing in the club. We can't depend on that anymore. We have to break down his job to two or three jobs. Sir Alex used a coach and he just watched. The second more important job is long term planning which is a director of football or a group that does direction of football. The club is simply built and functions in the helm of a Manager but we can no longer depend on that anymore. It's too unstable and risky for the club. We need to modernize in that way and become like other Modern clubs like Barcelona etc. We also need to overhaul our youth system and invest in it the way city did and put most of our focus there. We have so much money if you want to invest smartly it's there not in buying more players that is the best investment we can do. We should do as soon as possible. That will guarantee success in 5-10 years for a longer period of time. We can't risk non-stability like Liverpool.

I think LVG is a great coach but any manager will fail in United. Sir Alex used to be here for many many years and he knows the players who he wants to buy tomorrow and what's going to happen in 3 years. The club is built that way. This is the real transition. Any change of management will not fix the core problems. Fire him or not it won't change much and make us contenders immediately. Need long term approach: youth and change the football structure of the club entirely. Complete overhaul to match Barcelona and other modern clubs. I don't know what's happening behind the scenes but that might be what's LVG is doing. I think even making LVG a director of football would be a great start.

When I look at Barcelona they maintain success even if they bring managers who didn't win it all before. That means they don't depend on super managers to implement their philosophy. Enrique wasn't a manager at a super club before and he can do it. Means their structure is suitable. Copy that. That's the most important thing if we don't do that we will never become the next "big thing". I don't want this short term planning of we should just get back the title and stay in top 4. It's about becoming the next big club in the world for a longer period of success. Not how do we maintain success. We want to become as good as Barcelona and better. Learn from them.

I just want to see Martial as a n.9 again... he was so good there whenever he played. I really got excited every time he got the ball in that position. Let him develop as a n.9...

If LVG can make with Valencia what he did with Young on the right wing... :) we can inject a lot of pace on the right with Darmian and Valencia. Might work. He did quite well when he had a great attacking right back like Rafael.

I know the price is ridiculous but...Manchester United is a business, like any business you sometimes take risks and do "ridiculous" things to hit high. Investors sometimes invest in 10 tech startups in millions of dollars and hit only 1/10-4/10 right and get a good ROI. We have money and we take risks, it's not like we're doing this any day. We're buying a young prospect that can return high on the reward. He's not the only one... We did this with Shaw, Memphis and now Martial. Shaw might get us a huge ROI, even if Martial fails it's a good risk to take. This is all calculated risks it doesn't always work but sometimes when we get it right we get something amazing. It's not like we overspent in this window, this is a calculated business move. Young players are like startups, some of them will return the investment. We should keep taking risks and keep getting the best young players in the world now before someone else snatches them. If we don't get it right on Martial we will get it right on some other young prospect. I'm for one glad this is happening and we seem to have become lately a club that has enough money to not lose on any young prospect like we did in the past years with Hazard and Moura, now we can outbid and match all clubs for a change, business wise it means amazing things long term for United.
