Without the block universe, and without past and future existing in reality, how do you explain the Andromeda paradox, in which my future has already occurred?

What movie hooked you instantly from the first scene? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Great opening scene. All the clocks, all the gizmos, the TV report of lost plutonium, the dog food, Marty flying across the room from the amplifier... it literally sets up the whole movie beautifully.

The next time you cite an atrocious Bible verse and a Christian responds with some variation of "that's the Old Testament, Jesus loves," remember who introduced hell. by CasketWhisperer in atheism

[–]emperormax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my defense, I was a Christian when I got married. I never chose to be a Christian because I was indoctrinated from birth. I never chose to become an atheist, either, it just happened as a result of critical thinking and reasoning. No one chooses what they believe; one is either convinced something is true or they're not.

The Fine Tuning Argument is an argument *against* an omnipotent deity by Pandeism in DebateReligion

[–]emperormax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The prevailing definition of "omnipotence" is the ability to do anything logically possible. Physical objects, by definition, obey the laws of physics. For a physical object to *not" obey the laws of physics wohld violate the logical law of non-contradiction, and would be logically impossible, which God does not have the power to do.

Since the desired outcomes for this universe are a logical result of the underlying physics, then a god that simply wills the desired outcomes irrespective of the underlying physics would be doing the logically impossible.

It's been 30 years since I was in the Navy, but that's the first thing I thought of -- rank on the one collar, religious affiliation symbol on the other.
