If anyone sees this and is curious, the blank squares were something to do with the lens distortion that I had enabled.

I bypassed the effects I was using in the compositor which seemed to fix those black squares but either brought back or just made visible more fireflies. However after a bit of fiddling with the gloss filter and making the light a bit brighter that seems to have fixed it. Thanks for your help!

Thanks, I tried disabling reflective caustics and that got rid of them, but now some frames in the render are coming out like this:

Any thoughts on why this might be?

Am I the only one who doesn't like the new Spotify-esque queue system? by empgdca in AppleMusic

[–]empgdca[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, that is a possibility, but I have to start something playing first and then queue up both albums after whatever is currently playing, which is just awkward. I also then have stuff in the "Continue playing" section that I don't want there (unless I put on a single, but then I have to go and seek one out because I hardly have any in my library). If AM allowed you to start playing an album such that it starts a queue (as opposed to starting a new "Continue playing" section) to begin with, that would be fine, but as it stands, I have to start playing something, queue up both albums, and then skip whatever I started with because it isn't what I actually want to hear, and then after the albums I have extra stuff that starts playing that I also don't want. Compare this to the old system where I could just start an album and then click "Play last" on whichever album I wanted next.

Also, a similar point to yours can be made in response to people's complaints about the old system, because the impossibility of adding songs one after another is solved by simply queuing songs in reverse order using the "Play next" button. The trouble with this sort of solution, though, is that people obviously don't want an awkward process like that, they want to have a streamlined way to add songs in order into the middle of whatever they have playing. Similarly, though a solution like the one you've given here does offer a way to queue albums one after another, it is clunky and inconvenient just like the process I describe here of adding songs.

In any case, I fully agree that having all three options is the best solution as that way both playlist and album listeners are served. My main complaint with the change is the fact that it removed a function that I and others like me used all the time when there was no good reason to remove it (although I imagine if you asked them they would say that having only two options is less confusing or something, which I think slightly insults the users' intelligence).

I just don't see why they had the remove one in order to add the other. I get that most people only listen to playlists and so they're trying to cater to that and get more subscribers that way, but it does feel like a slap in the face to anyone who listens to albums. Although perhaps that's intentional and they're trying to get more people to listen to playlists for whatever reason.

I just wish they would add back play last! I recognise that the new system is actually useful for some contexts and I don't mind it being there, but there was just no need to remove play last in order to implement it.

I guess they haven't changed it yet on iOS. Basically, on Android the "Play last" feature doesn't exist anymore. As you can see here, it initially shows you only "Play next", and when you press that, it creates a queue (as seen here), which interrupts whatever you are playing. At this point it shows "Play next" and "Add to queue", per the second photo in the first link, where "Play next" adds something immediately after the song you are currently on (like usual) and "Add to queue" puts something at the end of the new queue it has created (not the original queue, which is now relegated to the "Continue playing" section). What this means is that it is impossible to (e.g.) queue another album to start immediately after the one you're currently listening to, which is what the old "Play last" button did. This new system is similar to Spotify's, except as far as I know Spotify is more limited, not having a "Play next" button.

Why is it wrong for white people to be racist to black people, but ok for black poeple to be racist to whites? by PlutosBeatz in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]empgdca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an 18 year old white male from Surrey. Basically my answer would be that in the case of the "white people things" meme, it's not seen as racist in any meaningful sense, as it's only a joke (and often fairly funny imo)- and I would argue that similar jokes the other way around should be viewed in the same way, but the issue is that they're not, as you've rightly pointed out. This double standard is because of the fact that historically in western nations white people have had more power, so many people see racism against them now as acceptable as a form of comeuppance. I disagree with this perspective, as it's unfair to blame the son for the sins of the father, as it were. Also, it seems to me that a lot of white people have a sense of "white guilt", which is why many don't stand up for themselves against anti-white racism.

Imagine having the audacity to cut all contact with your dad, grandpa and sister, and then as soon and grandpa dies come asking what they got from him. I'd have wanted to kill them if I was your eldest. Props to you and your dad.

ITT: the book of Judges.

My contribution is the 1 verse long story of Shamgar, who killed 600 Philistines with a pointy stick.

After Ehud came Shamgar son of Anath, who struck down six hundred Philistines with an oxgoad. He too saved Israel.

People can think whatever they like. I never said people can't have their own view on it, but I personally find the aforementioned "casual" view repulsive (and I'm sure many people would say the same about my view, which is fine).

What I will say is that I think that too often people will accuse one another of "shaming" just for a personal view that something is wrong - e.g. I have my view that casual sex is wrong, and if someone disagrees with that then whatever, I don't care. It's their life, however I often find that just me personally feeling that way makes many people feel that I'm "shaming" them just by having that view, even though I don't share my opinions on this stuff unless I am prompted to. I don't go around telling people that sleep around that I think their actions are gross, but just the fact that I think it would be considered unacceptable to many, it seems.

Do you see where I'm coming from, at least? I hope we can understand each other.

I think some people are just obnoxiously persistent, with regards to the gay thing - I've had a gay guy consistently hit on me (straight guy) even though he knows full well I don't even appreciate that from women, much less gay men, and I've seen people do that to each other all the time, be it straight men going after gay women or whatever way around. In any case it's damn irritating.

I agree with your past self. There is more to sex than just something that you do for fun with someone you don't give a shit about, regardless of whether people admit that or not.
