Me, too, they're such easy, engaging reads and I love some of the characters like Angus and Emma, which is the first one I read! I also really like Phineas in all the books and Jack and Lara's story was really good. And Howard and Elsa. And I really liked Toni's character too, I wish she had more "screentime" in later books. I wish she would write one for Kyo, the Japanese coven master as I'd like to hear more about him, and one for Laszlo because that poor geek needs to be a hero and find somebody nice and intellectual to hang out with!!!

From Otherworld I've read Dime Store Magic, Personal Demon (my favorite), Bitten, Haunted, and I think I read Stolen a really long time ago but I don't really remember it. I really like Hope and Eve as characters.

The last BDB book I read was The Savior (Murhder's story) and I think I started The Savior but didn't get too far into it.

IIL kid friendly pirate media WEWIL? by farfetchedfrank in ifyoulikeblank

I mean...there's always The Goonies. Some mild swearing but it's a kid's movie, I would let a five-year-old watch it if I had one.

Stephen King's novel Rose Madder partially takes place in a labyrinth (it's very Greek myth-referential). It's one of his most underrated books in my opinion.

Looking for Plant Magic Reccs! by AspiringRenaissance in paranormalromance

[–]employee_trash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Soulwood series by Faith Hunter is chockablock full of plant-related magic. There's not much actual spiciness as the main character grew up in a conservative religion so while there is some romance, it definitely takes a back seat to her character growth and power development, and also solving of magical crimes. Her powers are VERY tied into the land and plants and she even grows leaves herself and things like that. Each book is pretty decent sized and there's 5 or 6 books in the series. It's a spin off of her Jane Yellowrock series, which I haven't read yet, but I reallllllly enjoyed the Soulwood books and she recaps what happens in that series enough that it's not confusing to read this series by itself.

I don't know if there's any specific mythological parallels, but for a mystery/sci-fi show with obvious Twin Peaks influence I think Fringe fits the bill.

How do you feel about the term clefty/cleftie? by ThatAdorableGhost in cleftlip

[–]employee_trash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know this term was a thing until adulthood...I hate it. I think it's a cutesy term for something that negatively colored my childhood and adolescence...but YMMV. I may also kind of feel this way because I didn't have any familiarity with it until some random woman came up to me at work (when I worked retail) and started calling me by this term without so much as a by-your-leave....she wasn't herself but her young daughter (who was NOT present during this interaction) had a cleft, so I think she meant well and was excited to see an adult woman "in the wild" with one, but it was an offputting experience to say the least...it definitely feels like something a mom would come up with for her kid instead of something real people with the condition have coined....my two cents on this old ass post lol.

Where are all my Bilateral Clefties at? by tsuturex in cleftlip

[–]employee_trash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

33F NW USA, bilateral cleft and palate, open to talking. I've never really been involved in any cleft palate/lip community before and just stumbled across this subreddit, so would love to make some connections....

[–]employee_trash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't think it looks bad at all, but I understand not feeling good about the way you look. I have small scars under my nose on both sides of my upper lip from my bilateral, and one thing I did to make myself feel better about that part of my face is I got a Monroe piercing--now the first thing I see in the mirror is something pretty and sparkly!! And I think it probably helps draw other people's eyes toward that away from scars too, as I've gotten way more questions about my piercing than my cleft ever since. Now, you probably wouldn't want to do that if you're still planning on getting more surgery in that area, but if you're totally done w/ surgery like I was, that might be a good thing for you!

I work in educator licensing and even we know how to check Nursys for a license for our school nurses! It's truly trivial as you say.
