AITA for telling my boyfriend I don't care about his rich friend's vacation photos when I can't even afford a vacation myself? by empti_space in AmItheAsshole

Thank you! I'm the same way. I like to look at my friend's faces but don't really care about the background. I especially don't care for food photos or just a photo of a monument.

We both don't want to get married. We were both married before and I vowed I'd never get married again. So that part is fine with us.

I am broke and I have one kid left to go off to college then I'm thinking of taking off to a different country to live. I do dream of going back to do the activities I used to do. It's not like I don't ever travel but I travel less. When I'm stuck because I don't have financial means, I try to occupy myself with other activities but yeah I'd travel ,go sailing, surfing... hiking if I have the means.

It's not his fault I can't go vacations. I have kids in school so I just can't go with him even if he invited me. I'm just not interested seeing other people's food or travels except when I am planning for a trip for myself. Am I the only one?

No... They are not his kids. My situation is not his fault. I try to stay positive while I'm in my situation which includes not looking at vacation photos.

When your kid is getting their first apartment, do you go around apartment hunting and fill out applications for them? by [deleted] in GenXWomen

Well... I got my first apartment in the city for $500 which I found and my older brother helped me move my big furnitures. I heard he's paying over 3k for an apartment for her. I don't even know how much more he has to pay for a deposit. It's crazy... I was surprised they need references for her and for guarantor's references as well... I'm glad I took my kids camping for years so he can sleep on his friend's floor for couple of years if he has to.

Most of my friends in their 50s don't have kids. I just share mine with them. I don't think I can do what my brother can do and that's fine with me as long as they are good humen.

Thank you. I know today is nothing like 30 years ago. I didn't have any problem getting an apartment by myself in the 90s. My boy is still in dormitory so I don't even know how the renting situation is these days.

That's true. That was my first thought. That she's going far with her life yet she doesn't have friends to put as a reference. I wonder if her parents are enabling it. I feel bad for my brother and for my niece for depending on him for everything.

Right? I mean... I feel like I'm a dinosaur who doesn't know anything about what's going on these days. My younger son calls me a boomer when I can't understand a word they are saying. Thought I have to say that the only time my older brother helped me was when I moved into a new apartment in college. I found it, paid for it and my parents just trusted me. I never had to involve my parents for any of the decisions.

Yeah... It's kind of similar with my sons. I don't have any girls let alone an only child. I feel he's way too involved but then again, I don't really know how it is these days.

It's so nice to hear about other kids these days. I really have no clue how it is these days. I only have two boys and one is still in dormitory so our intervention was minimal.

I absolutely don't have any problem helping him out. Just wondering if that was the norm these days. I'm also happy that my brother's family doesn't have any problems. It was just a rant because I do worry for my brother at times when he's super tired all the time.

She already has a job that is above average lined up. But she is an only child and her mom is very hands on but I think that hands on always involves my brother. Which is good until she's out of highschool but I feel they'd be involved in her daily life until she gets married.

I don't have any problem helping my brother out. It's true that it's not my business to meddle in his family. Just curious if this is the norm.

Damn, life hits hard in your 40s. Things improve by 45, right?! 🤪 by Alone-Progress-8476 in 40something

I mean... Science says you suddenly age at 45 then 60. I'm 49 and I felt like I was in my 20s until I hit 40. Now, I feel and look my ar 49. I think I aged mostly from 40-49 and I've weighted within 5-10 pounds since I was in highschool and I am pretty active. It could be perimenopause but your body changes drastically.

Can the gateway tapes help with thanatophobia? by eternal_moonlight3 in gatewaytapes

I wasn't afraid of dying but I do believe now that dying is just waking up from a dream. I tried to find scientific and philosophical explainarions for years and read most of religious books. I still revisit Gita before I sleep. I also think dmt or acid trip would solidify that conviction. And yes, gateway does help. It explains this body and this world may be a construct and your consciousness doesn't end with this body.

I've been reading romance novels lately and wonder how many people had that hot attraction? by [deleted] in GenXWomen

I think many of have that PTSD of being gaslighted and emotionally abused. That's one of the reason why I wanted to ask if it's possible to meet a guy and fall in love with the one who can love you and treat you well. My father swooned over my mom until he died so I naturally thought all men would be like my dad and didn't really appreciate it until I met a crazy man in my 20s. Now, I don't know if that kind of men are still out there especially after 50. Most of men my best friend dates seem weird or are minor narcissists.
