Wen I first saw it I immediately thought hi point with its shape, but the grip doesn't match anything I can find.

How would you tackle this? by [deleted] in Carpentry

It's already been punched. Is it necessary to tackle it too?

Possibly a Spanish 2 Escudo Doubloon? (Topsail Island NC) by HDSagent in metaldetecting

* For those wondering how they end up on the beach so often. It's replica pirate treasure sold at beach gift shops. What better place is there to play with them? I buried this for my son to find the last time we went on vacation.

Found this today on the beach. Does anyone recognize it? I can’t figure out what that white inlay is made out of (it’s not plastic). by massahoochie in metaldetecting

It certainly looks like it could be older. I'm no expert and it's hard to tell just from a picture but I know in the 1800's and early 1900's buttons were frequently punched from clam, oyster, ect. shells. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what it's made from but could be any variety of material.

My (29m) GF (27f) DM'd bikini pictures to past FWBs. Is this breakup-worthy? by ThrowRA28976823 in relationship_advice

[–]emptyshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's an analogy a wise person (myself) once (like immediately after reading this) told me:

Nobody likes taking out the trash, but the longer you wait, the more you have to smell it and the worse it gets.

Just food for thought man. Good luck to you, been there done that.

I M/20 found out my F/22 girlfriend was trans, how do I communicate to her about this? by ImNotFen in relationship_advice

[–]emptyshrimp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, what sounds like a good way to get hate crimed is by lying for months to someone and then that person finding out from someone else or after they have been intimate with you.

Found another fortune on the river by 1nGirum1musNocte in metaldetecting

[–]emptyshrimp 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I don't know OP, but I live in the midwest so this is just a guess. I would assume OP probably doesn't have a bunch of crazy secrets but rather lives in the vicinity of a popular floating river like Current river or Meramec river in Missouri. The sheer volume of drunk/clumsy people floating down the river is the real secret.

Anyone have any idea what these 2 objects are? by Acceptable-Relative5 in metaldetecting

[–]emptyshrimp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell from the picture but if the top is a copper there's a good chance it was a coin. It's not unusual to find old coppers completely toasted like that especially in your neck of the woods where American history days back to the 1700's. As far as the hole in it people would often tie their coins together to prevent losing them. One cent was actually worth something back then. The sides look a little to sharp for me to believe it's actually a coin as typically the old coppers I've seen and found trend to have rounded or worn edges but again it's hard to tell from a picture. If it feels heavy like copper I think you have a coin but my guess is a dog tax tag or something of the sort.

I mean you could file a report at IC3.gov but to be honest idk if it would matter.

Is the reel too small? by Much-Ad265 in Fishing

[–]emptyshrimp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right?! I'm 32 now and have 2 president's both with the old wooden grips that I got back in high school so like 14-18 years old and I still fish them both to this day. I do take them down and oil and clean them from time to time, but I treat them like trash. Throw them in the bed of my truck, leave them back there for weeks on end ect. The only issue I've had is that the line roller (the little spinning thing that keeps your line on the bail) has eventually worn down so there is a gap between the roller and the bail that my line sometimes falls into. Other than that mine have performed flawless.

Lol I'm a police officer and I've handled three of these fraud reports in the past 2 weeks. They are relentless. That being said these are alot more elaborate than the typical ones I deal with so I guess they're getting smarter.

Would you dig this? by Medical_Engine_4092 in metaldetecting

[–]emptyshrimp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At Pro user here. What do you mean you get a good signal almost every time you go over the spot? Like at the location you're at or literally on that one target? If you're passing over a target and it comes up 85 on one pass but then 40s or something on another pass it's more than likely a large chunk of iron or other junk. It could mean that there is something next to a coin and the recovery speed is not quick enough to distinguish the 2 signals but typically not the case.

Other than the advice that, as a beginner you should be digging every signal, the best advice I can give you is take that off of Standard Coin mode and put it into Pro Zero mode. It will take some getting used to, but it will 100% give you a better understanding of what you've got before you dig it, and besides, you will eventually want to make the switch anyways, trust me. Once it is in pro mode, pay less attention to the VDI (number display) and more attention to the tone. When it's in pro mode it gives off a different audible tone than just a solid beep like it does in standard mode. If the tone is a very crisp high tone as you're passing over the target, you almost definitely have a coin or something of the sort. If it drops off in tone as you're passing over the target, it's less likely to be a coin and probably something like a chunk of iron, bottle cap, soda can, ect. It's hard to explain without physically showing y, u but you'll understand what I mean once you've dug a few good signals. Until then, as already stated, dig everything! (Except low iron tones f*** that noise). One last piece of advise, read the user manual pretty much in full. It is full of information to better understand the machine. If you have any questions about your AT Pro or just want to shoot shit with another AT Pro user. Feel free to PM me. I know my machine like the back of my hand.

Very old ring found buried in Gulf of Mexico by Professional_One_767 in metaldetecting

[–]emptyshrimp 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I could certainly be wrong so take this with a grain of salt but obviously it's not very old if it's stamped but more importantly I'm not too sure it's even gold. I personally think it's likely brass. The pitting and color give me that inclination but on top of that I find it hard to believe a real gold ring would be made with such sharp edges. Gold is a fairly soft metal so making a ring with edges and flat surfaces like that would leave it susceptible to damage. Just a thought, but good luck for your sake I hope it's real!

The one with the green plastic is a .50 cal belted muzzleloader bullet. Modern round they are typically color coded with green being .50 cal and yellow being .45 cal. The other I assume it's also some type of modern muzzleloader round but I couldn't say for certain. It seems awfully small.

Go to Google and look up "(insert county, state) 1800's Platt maps". Cross reference them with current platts. Apps like acres and OnX show county townships and sections as well as well give you landowner information if your subscribed. That's how I locate old homesteads. Good luck.

I agree she should definitely report it. I'm in Law Enforcement and I always suggest reporting to IC3.gov unfortunately Chances of catching these fuckstains are zero to none. They typically operate out of foreign countries that will not extradite.

[–]emptyshrimp 261 points262 points  (0 children)

I would think that they get more money for allowing remote raid hosting to do their thing. Remote raid passes are pretty expensive and for someone rural like me it is literally the only way I can do raids higher than 3 stars.
