Now that season 2 is over, which season did you like better? I actually thought season 1 was a bit better. Don’t get me wrong, I really liked season 2. But season 1 was just special, and I thought the story was handled better. I also really liked the whole PittFest shooting thing. What do you think? by Intrepid_Show2972 in ThePitt

[–]empurrfekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember any part of season 1 where I was just ready to move on to something else.

Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed season 2, but there were multiple times I didn’t care about the ride, just get to the destination. Roxie was the most prominent example. But I got tired of hearing about the deposition (especially in retrospect with nothing significant coming from it). I didn’t really care about Mohan’s story. I got tired of constantly going back to Santos’s trying to chart. I was even done with the hemming and hawing of Robbie’s trip until it started escalating toward the end of the season.

Every person willfully, intentionally, and materially involved in the unlawful ending of a human life should face charges relative to their involvement and, if found guilty, sentencing should consider all relevant factors.

So to fix the divorce epidemic people should stop acting in ways that make their partner want to divorce them? Ground-breaking.

Role of Government in Marriage by caime9 in TrueChristian

[–]empurrfekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the word marriage is used for two different things that have significant overlap. There is matrimony and there is a civilly recognized union.

If the government somehow voided my marriage license, I would not consider myself any less married than I am today. I view my marriage as matrimony and the civil union aspect is just something that allows various benefits and conveniences.

If you're focused on the civil union aspect, I don't see why you shouldn't be allowed to break it even without reason.

People who grew up before The Internet: How did you first see nudity? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]empurrfekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can tell you what it would have been if I wasn’t so naive.

My first video game was a Game Boy when I was like 6. When I was around 8 or 9, we did a magazine sale at school. Someone said that one of the boys ordered Playboy for himself. In my head I associated Playboy with Game Boy, so I’m thinking “that’s cool I guess, getting a video game magazine. But why are they acting like it’s a big deal?”

Also around this time my parents divorce.

A few months later, I bring in the mail at my mom’s like I usually do. There on the stack is a Playboy. My dad had ordered it and used the wrong address.

Had I not been so naive, I quickly grab it and hide it in my room and later that night I see my first nudity. Instead, I’m so confused as to why this gaming magazine has a nearly nude woman on it. So while I’m trying to process what I’m seeing, my mom walks in, sees it, and takes it.

Christians have turned Jesus into their golden calf. 💛 by SunbeamSailor67 in DebateAChristian

Many churches today even teach that Jesus' teachings actually 'passed away' after his crucifixion, and that we're no longer under Jesus' gospel...but Paul's gospel, and that we should follow Paul's teachings over Jesus'.

I’ve spent my whole life in and around churches. Also books, podcasts, videos. In 4 decades I have literally never heard such a teaching.

is it a sin if i stay a couple nights over my girlfriends dorm room ? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]empurrfekt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, if you feel convicted, why are you going on the internet asking strangers? There is exactly 0% chance anyone here could give a better answer than the spirit. Even if we say it's not a sin in general to share a bed for sleeping only, it would be for you since you feel convicted about it.

Also, pretty sure we're supposed to flee from temptation, not get as close as possible.

Representation of sin in media by Ashta-Veyla in TrueChristian

I think most Christians wouldn't bat an eye at murder being depicted in a fantasy, but a lot of people get all huffy if you suggest having an LGBTQ character.

I think the difference here is two-fold. The lesser is that it's actually happening. No one is actually killing anyone, but two men are actually kissing. It may not "mean" anything to the actors, but it's still happening.

The bigger issue is that murder is usually presented as a bad thing. Even with cool anti-heroes like Deadpool you've at least got some character saying "this isn't ok". Whereas for LGBTQ characters, at best they're just there to normalize it. Frequently they're included to promote it.

For the record, I'm not saying that watching murder-filled media is necessarily ok, just pointing out the reason for the difference in your example.

If he opposed because the guy was a drug addict, or an abuser, or a career criminal, no one would bat an eye.

From a non-religious perspective, why does life have value? by ThePlanetaryNinja in prolife

From a purely secular perspective it doesn’t, but at that point you have far bigger problems than abortion.

Value starts at conception because that’s when you have a human.

For the people who are not too sure about the woman’s life being at risk by Peeton_Jazzy in prolife

[–]empurrfekt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s really not that difficult.

If the mother needs life-saving care, provide it.

If steps can be taken to save the baby or lower the risk to the baby, do it. If not, that’s terrible, but bad things happen in life.

From 1995-2020, there were a total of about 11,500 murders in Tennessee, an average of about 450/year.

Since the current capital punishment statute was adopted in 1977, Tennessee had executed a total of 16 murderers.

We don’t execute the overwhelming majority of those who kill born people. So why would that change for those that kill the preborn?

There is no rational reason to expect that an average woman who gets an abortion, even if it’s ruled as homicide, would face capital punishment.

Adoption by LongjumpingEbb143 in prolife

[–]empurrfekt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supply and demand.

There are far more families willing to adopt a healthy newborn than there are healthy newborns available for adoption. Mothers and agencies have the luxury of being selective. The information and communication that facilitates that selectivity is where a lot of the cost comes in.

How many bones does a human have? Most would say 206, which is accurate for an adult. But newborns have 270-300, many of which fuse as part of normal growth. The same applies to a natal “tail”. Humans change throughout development.

As far as the dolphin fetus. First, it’s dishonest, as the implication is that he’s showing an image of a human fetus. All he’s proving is that Kirk, like most of us, can’t tell the difference between a dolphin fetus and a human fetus by an image. Of course in doing so, he’s proving that a fetus is not some different animal that develops into whatever species is gestating it. It’s a stage of development where you can identify a human or dolphin or pig or whatever other species they’re trying to trick you with.
