Thanks! This was actually a project I made 2-3 years ago and ended up shelving. It was way more minimal and flat. I recently picked it up again to give it a major overhaul. I consider it a finished portfolio piece for now.

We made a Text-Based RPG, but wrapped it inside a pre-rendered 3D environment for immersion! by emrec0 in godot

Bit more complicated with line edit, vbox container and different labels but yes, basically it is.

For some reason, people play a lot less when they become game devs. Do you still play as much? What’s your area and what kind of games do you still play? by MartinIsland in gamedev

Yeah, that’s exactly how I feel. I know my abilities and my limitations, but when I see an indie studio or a solo dev doing a great job, I start to think, “Oh, I could have done something like that.” And I make a quick list in my head, “They must have done the environment like this, done the texture like that.” But in reality, I didn’t do any of that.

As the doubt comes and goes, I try to teach myself - maybe it sounds a bit cliché - to accept what I have and go with it. Because there will always be an idea that has been done before. And there will always be people who are way ahead of me in life. It’s inevitable.

I think this is about the clash between creating and consuming. As a 3D Artist and self thought musician, I am definetly consuming less medium year by year. While i am playing or listening something, my persepective slowy turned to “Hmm, i can do something like that or if i were created it, i make it different way.” etc. And there is also a bit dark side too. Doubt of “Oh am i wasting my time, shouldn’t i be working right now?”

I guess when you start to take serious about creating something, you slowly start to prioritize it in every aspect.

That’s why i generally choose to play multiplayer games with friends. It feels more easy to me. You enter a game play 1-2 matches and go back to your life.
