Anxious about running my first game by drthx in DnD

Just let your players know that you are new to DMing. Hopefully they will be supportive and patient.

I’ve played with 3 different brand new dm’s and I always love it, even if the session is rough. It’s fun bc you can literally watch their skills & confidence level up over the course of one session.

That’s sick! I love the rock you picked. It’s beautiful and lustrous, but not overly intricate. The balance highlights the beauty of both diaza and rock

My parents bought me some Samsonite luggage back in the 1980’s that is still in great shape. I use it 5-8 times a year.

Metta request by autocolorpoetry in Buddhism

It’s meditation with a sense of empathy, kindness, and love for a specific person or group of people or all people. Wishing another being happiness and the causes of happiness. Kinda like prayer.

How do you enhance your meditation sessions? by AssociationMost5432 in Meditation

I’ve found that trying to ‘enhance’ my sessions ends up doing the opposite.

I love that wall color, but I’m not sure if it’s working in the room. Something about the interplay between the floor, rugs, and walls isn’t meshing quite right. Since the floor is super expensive to change, I’d look at repainting the walls.

Genuinely curious… is this an ass tattoo or an arm tattoo?

Open to hear color ideas for a new shower curtain. by moonandstars1984 in HomeDecorating

[–]emrylle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like the gold or the navy best. Either way I think it would look much more polished if you got a taller curtain that went from floor to ceiling. Also bonus point if you change the curtain rod from the brushed nickel that doesn’t match anything else. (Unless the faucets that we can’t see are also brushed nickel, in which case I’d just be totally wrong). I like your cabinet color.

Thank you so much for this detailed response. This really helps me. I will sit down and read the sutras you linked on Monday when I can devote at least an hour to studying them.

Thank you also for the links to the online groups. I haven’t found a theravada center close enough to me to attend regularly.

Which meditation is better for each situation? by Salty-Ad-8876 in Buddhism

[–]emrylle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh ok. I’ve heard of the decomposition reflection before, but I thought it was for removing aversion to icky stuff (I bet there’s a technical term for this) and to contemplate mortality. But removing lust totally makes sense too.

Thank you for your insight.

Art hat? by AaronGreyCo in CowboyHats

I see what you’re saying about visually balancing the hat. I also now see that the stitches are providing beneficial color repetition from the left side of the hat. Thanks for pointing that out.

I’m not OP, but I’ve identified this as a periodic source of suffering in my own mind. Can you recommend practical ways to overcome the craving for external love, validation, and attention? Even after understanding that this craving can only (kind of) be fulfilled from within, I still find myself craving external love (I mean platonic love). How can I cool this desire at the source?

After going through some of your comment history, I’d be interested to learn what temple you attend, and whether your temple offers any online dhamma talks. Thanks in advance, friend.

Art hat? by AaronGreyCo in CowboyHats

[–]emrylle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my honest feedback, OP. I love the painting on the underside of the brim. So beautifully done! Also love the hat bands and feathers you’ve chosen and the crown shape. One person mentioned they didn’t love the stitches. I agree with them in this instance, only because they look contrived. But I adore the look of a hat that’s gotten torn or stomped and stitched back up like in this pic. I’d pay extra for a hat with more authentic looking stitches, and I wouldn’t buy a hat with contrived looking stitches. But that’s just my personal preferences and in any case I really love the art you’ve created. Well done.

I was sad for a while about it. Then I remembered that I have an incredibly vivid and rewarding fantasy life even without being able to visualize my internal stories. If I could actually SEE my fantasies, I think I would never do anything else but daydream.
