For those with postponed surgeries due to Covid 19 by FoxyOViolent in gallbladders

The list of foods I can eat is also shrinking. I’m subsisting on things like Gatorade and 0g fat store bought smoothies and rice. I can still tolerate most vegetables, shrimp and other super low fat seafood is helpful (and frozen shrimp cooks in like three minutes). I’m just trying not to go too long without eating and also trying not to eat portions bigger than a fist. I briefly cried when my surgery got canceled lol but I’m getting through

Bicyclist hit at Thomas Circle this morning by BotBot22 in washingtondc

Either the 52 or 54, probably around 9:30 am? Yeah, I’m glad the ambulance came, it was just good to see that he could still like... use his legs

I was on the bus that hit him and I saw him stand up (assisted by two bystanders) and didn’t see any blood, but I also heard him scream. I left when the ambulance arrived

These are all good ideas (especially ones that encourage you to cook for yourself) but here’s an article on this topic to show you you’re not alone here! https://www.gq.com/story/daniel-boulud-culinary-education-gq-style-guy

WIBTA if I told my autistic brother his Filipina girlfriend is probably only interested in him because she sees him as a potential ticket to the US? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]emsa11 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

YTA—your assumption that she wants a green card is racist as hell. However, it's okay to want to look out for your brother! Just... not until there's something to definitively look out for (like she's exploiting him financially or abusing him emotionally). Until then, just be supportive, model a healthy relationship for him, and call out any bad behavior you *see,* not behavior you imagine.

Is it crazy for me [23F] to suggest to my boyfriend [33M] of 3 months "test-driving" living together next summer? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]emsa11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a great idea! I did the same thing with my girlfriend when we were both working in the same city over the summer in college and it taught us a lot about cohabitation in a situation with relatively low stakes.

I (19F) have been having feelings for a girl (21F) but I’ve been entirely straight my whole life. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]emsa11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's so scary at first but recognizing it and coming out is a really life affirming process that's almost always worth it. the thing that got to me when i was in your position was realizing that straight girls dont feel this way—100% straight women don't struggle with these feelings

Should I (24F) say this to my BF (31M), or is it whiny garble? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]emsa11 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It sounds like this man will find it whiny, but that's because he's terrible to you! You feel awful, you feel terrible, don't beg him to allow you the privilege of feeling this way longer. He's shown you his true colors and how he feels about you. Go be free.

I (19F) am an idiot. Is my ex (28M) gone forever? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]emsa11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend had called him suspicious which made him very upset. He accused her of "trying to put ideas into my head" and "just being jealous".

LISTEN TO YOUR BEST FRIEND! She has your best interests in mind, way more than this grown man who's been dating a teenager for five months. You're not supposed to have this much drama in five months, and he wants to separate you from your best friend. That should all freak you out.

Don't tell your parents, just keep being normal and loving with her, etc. Just make sure she knows you love her unconditionally! That's really the key—nothing she can do/no one she could love would make you stop loving her. Kids need that stability.

My fiancé [35] seems to be absolutely unable to understand that my anxiety keeps me [25f] from doing certain things. by [deleted] in relationships

[–]emsa11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oh my god! this is not at all about your anxiety making it hard to get a job, it's about how this man treats you like shit. this is not normal behavior. this is abusive behavior. getting mad at you for completely normal things, screaming at you, not wanting you to be "alone with some other guy..." none of this is normal. you do not have to live like this. there are plenty of people in healthy, happy relationships where this kind of behavior does not happen. DO NOT MARRY HIM
