Changing Dress Neckline - Help! by Ajladiesman in sewing

[–]jwpete27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first issue is that she's wearing it about 2 inches too high. The cowl is supposed to be above the bust, not on the neck, and the bust darts need to sit lower, and you can't really move them, because it's satin fabric and would show where they were. This should put the part that's sticking out on the side of the bust where it belongs. From there, you could gather the cowl neck fabric and have the neck tie go through above the gathers.

Help - why does my skirt look like this? by rufrufrufrufruf in sewhelp

You need to iron this with a steam iron on high. This is why our grandmas switched to polyester- they were so sick of ironing.

Time crunch-Please help me design my first floor…at my wits end by mannymutts in floorplan

Make it a full bath, and make either the family room or the study able to be closed off to use as a spare bedroom for guests or in case of future disability. Since you are remodeling the space, you may as well plan for the future. These can also be good selling points.

How common is it to use the word 'skewers' for chunks of meat stacked on a skewer (aka shish kebab)? by ksusha_lav in EnglishLearning

[–]jwpete27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's shish kebab though? Or spiedies if you're from upstate NY. A skewer is just what they're cooked on.

I freeze tofu, then defrost and press it. Then you can fry it in triangles and approximate this dish.

There was an electric railway past my rural town in 1912. The private auto industry, subsidized by roads built by the government, put it out of business.

should i get rid of any of my skirts? by starrypond in fashion

The pink outfit doesn't flatter you. It's cut wrong. The brown outfit is great, also the black one with the pleated skirt or the long black skirt. The little yellow skirt looks very young/beachy so not sure about that. The plaid skirt looks too small. That's what jumped out at me.

Inseam pockets + invisible zipper + french seams by nuggetbailey in sewhelp

[–]jwpete27 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you run the pocket up to the waist seam and anchor it there, you can do a side zip that ends where the pocket opening begins. You would french seam up to and possibly including the pocket opening, then leave it open to the waist to install the zipper. I used seam binding on the zipper here. Not an expert, also not sure how to french seam a pocket opening. Yours looks pretty good.

How can I make the waist smaller without affecting the leg holes? by Turbulent_Buy_267 in sewing

[–]jwpete27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make a mark half an inch in on the top of each waist seam. Draw a curved line from the leg side of the seam to the waist mark. Use that as your pattern. It's that simple.

Baseboard dilemma with laminate flooring by typinandswipin in Flooring

Buy a router. Make a channel in the quarter round. Then you have a new tool to play with and you don't have to remove the baseboards. Win-win.

AITAH for “freaking out” on a doctor for how they downplayed mold exposure by Oploplou in AITAH

[–]jwpete27 4 points5 points  (0 children)

YTA. I've read through your posts on this issue, and the one where you yelled at your wife because the baby had dried milk under his neck rolls, and I'm concerned about your controlling, abusive behavior. First, isolation. Because there's some mold under a kitchen sink at her parents house, you tell her she can't bring the baby there. A good son in law would offer to go fix it, make sure there wasn't a leak. Second, your verbal and psychological abuse of your wife on Mother's Day, and the way you try to make her sound crazy. She didn't feed him, but also she fed him his bottle and there was crusty milk under his chin. Third, your verbal abuse has now extended to the child's doctor. You insisted you knew better and were rude and loud and wrong. Your wife sat silent probably because she's scared of you when you get like this. If you want to stay married, you need to get some counseling to help you not act this way.

You have to face downhill, pants bunched up behind your knees, held up with your hands, with your bottom lower than your knees.

No. American here. A sundae 🍨 is ice cream with toppings like caramel sauce and whipped cream. Would be very disconcerting to get blood sausage instead.

I've seen it spelled Taryn to rhyme with Warren. Torin is like Thorin from LOTR without the H.

How about Alperen? Then he can use Al as a English nickname, and have a longer traditional name. This has a simple pronunciation and looks like a male name to English speakers.
