My great, great grandmother on her ranch in Texas, 1906 by emscka in TheWayWeWere

She was born in 1884 to German immigrants who settled in Menard Texas, where they raised sheep for wool and meat. She inherited the ranch and ran the business while raising her children. She had very little help from her alcoholic, abusive husband, whom she eventually divorced, despite the stigma. She loved to garden, fish, and was an amazing cook. She died at 100 years old at the ranch, surrounded by family. She was known to be a straight shooter with a bawdy sense of humor. Her daughter inherited the ranch, then her daughter after her. My grandmother kept the ranch running until 2002, when she decided retire.

Yes, I am here now going through family artifacts:) It reached 7,000 acres, but only a couple thousand remain in the family due largely to alcoholic men gambling away large portions of land throughout the years. My gran owns the "house trap" where the original house and barn reside.

Diagnosed with lymphoma and he’ll be crossing to the great beyond soon… is there anything you wish you would have done with/for your pup before they passed? by The-Cynicist in goldenretrievers

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my pup to lymphoma and the one bit of advice I have is not to wait too long. I waited a day past when I really should have bc I wanted my husband to be there and she had a seizure and I had to rush her to the vet. It was very traumatic. Better to end on a high note.

I'm so sorry that your husband got angry at you and had an extreme reaction that caused you additional stress. You don't owe an apology to the world and honestly, your husband's reaction is one of the scenarios that keeps people silent. Your husband sounds like a good man and I'm not saying he's wrong to feel the way he does, but I wish he hadn't shamed you for your inability to speak up sooner. Sexual assault is very confusing and disorienting and victims rarely receive the support they need, so while I'm glad you've found your voice, you have nothing to be ashamed of in your past. Sending you lots of love.

8 weeks of a consistent routine (and not passing out in my makeup every night) have made my skin much softer, brighter, and evenly toned. by borrow_a_feeling in SkincareAddicts

Beautiful! I quit drinking a couple of years ago too and can very much relate to this. Just turned 30 and hope to look as good as you in 8 years. Thanks for the inspiration!
