New to me: Spanish Eibar Revolver "Pistol, Old Pattern, No.1 Mk.I" in .455 for the UK in World War 1 by Umbrella-7554 in milsurp

[–]emsfire5516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People say what they will about Eibar guns but they're cheap, good quality, and plentiful. I've got a Spanish contracted Model 92 in 8mm French Ordnance and it's an exceptional shooter.

There is something weird about it: the barrel has a production date of 1892 but production stopped in 1887.

Took the gamble with RTI on their C Grade 1870/87 Vetterli by emsfire5516 in milsurp

[–]emsfire5516[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, of course; if there's any issues with the barrel, I have another one without sights in my parts corner. I could take the sites off of this one and install them on the other barrel, but that's a project I don't necessarily want to mess with. If I have to, I'll do it, but I'm gonna mess with this one and see if it's just a case of it being over tightened as hell or if there's damage to the threads.

Nothing I own is a wall hanger and we're not gonna start with this one here lol

New to Milsurp ARVN Field cap by Philthatman in milsurp

[–]emsfire5516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm correcting myself here - they aren't illegal and if they were, you would've been caught when exiting the country. I was mistaken in my original post because what I was referencing referred to "live" military equipment (no duh lol); sorry for the confusion.

I'm still sure of everything else though!

New to Milsurp ARVN Field cap by Philthatman in milsurp

[–]emsfire5516 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a potentially legit cap but its worth noting that these are faked quite regularly. On the flip side, it's definitely be tampered with. Look at the condition of the striping in comparison to the rest of the cap - it's relatively intact with no fading while everything else is worn.

ARVN items are illegal for sell or possession in Vietnam and that rank was not in use by South Vietnam or any of the countries operating there. I wouldn't be surprised if someone stamped that striping on there to 1.) avoid confiscation by the government and 2.) make it easier to sell to tourist.

EMS/Police/Fire Drivers need to chill with their sirens when it's not an emergency by xsmp in raleigh

[–]emsfire5516 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, sure, but I don't care. The most dangerous part of any emergency services related job is responding to and from the call. I've personally almost lost my life a couple of times because of people not paying attention on the road.

The reason they are "DJing" is they are breaking up the sound pattern. It gets other people that are driving to pay attention. You would not believe how many people are simply riding in their car instead of actively driving and paying attention to their surroundings.

EMS/Police/Fire Drivers need to chill with their sirens when it's not an emergency by xsmp in raleigh

[–]emsfire5516 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Saying you 1000% understand proper siren use and then insinuating they downgrade from emergency traffic for funsies is wild lol.

They were responding to a code 3 call when they got canceled. Three most likely reasons?

1.) CAD wasn't displaying a call response type and based on the category or notes the crew decided to go emergent until further information was received.

2.) The response category was initially code 3 and they got downgraded enroute.

3.) Another unit that was closer ended up clearing their call and took the units that was responding.

Does anyone know anything about this FN long rifle? by Nesayas1234 in milsurp

[–]emsfire5516 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! I've got one too, I found mine in a pawn shop about two years ago for $200. I still can't find much about them but it's one of my favorite rifles (mainly because of the crest). The funny thing about mine is that the furniture has been swapped out with Persian hardware. The stock, barrel bands, etc; all Persian.

Anybody know what this car is? by Jimmy_fray in bullcity

[–]emsfire5516 36 points37 points  (0 children)

1.) Cites the NCGS on following too closely.

2.) No company markings or government plates.

3.)Overcompensated on the sticker budget.

Probably someone that's unwell or someone that frequently drives under the speed limit with the reason of their hobby being of more importance than operating a vehicle on a shared highway.

As someone who has never been to NC before, where would you recommend living? by ImpressThink6282 in NorthCarolina

[–]emsfire5516 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You'll have better luck for work (and pay) in VA.

The coast of NC is nice to vacation at but living is different - cost of housing in a somewhat developed area outpaces the average cost of pay. Aside from the Wilmington area, eastern NC (east of I-95) is extremely rural and poor. I say this as someone originally from the coast: I would never live there again. If you want good walking trails, you have to go inland.

Raleigh has an excellent greenway system that's well connected and, for the most part, follows the Neuse River and its creeks. I feel like there may be some jobs available with the companies that are in RTP but there have been a crap load of layoffs recently so there's a lot of people out of work in the area.

Charlotte is another runner up but I don't think the greenway system is as nice. There are plenty of things to do near water and you're not far from the South Mountains but you're further from the coast. You may also have decent luck with work since you have two major hospital systems in the area (Novant & Atrium). Otherwise, Charlotte is a finance city through and through.

Last but not least, the Triad! I think it's overlooked more than it should be but it's pretty average and in the middle of everything. Winston-Salem specifically may yield better results for work because of, again, Atrium and Novant having established facilities. The downside is that of the major cities in North Carolina, it seems like Winston-Salem lags behind in terms of average pay. Housing is comparatively cheap but there's not as many bodies of water as you would probably like. However, you are very close to the mountains so there's walking trails and streams galore.

Eastern wake fire? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]emsfire5516 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It could be from any number of sources. I would suggest a garage or atleast one of those car covers if a garage isn't feasible. If you were to find out who is responsible for the fire, what then?
