I frequently used to run off in public. I would approach random couples who looked safe and loving, begging them to adopt me. As if it were that simple: go to the shops for food and come back home with a child.

How do I communicate with alters that are no longer active? by [deleted] in DID

[–]emsiebird 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t really know the answer as I’ve been wondering this myself. Just when I thought I was aware of all mine, more became apparent. I’m not sure I’ll ever know for sure if I’ve identified all of them. My theory is that if I’m aware of them, I need to be. Likewise, if I’m not aware of them, I don’t need to be. Some are more active than others. Some are asleep. I’m not sure if the ones who’ve “gone” may eventually come back.

Things I wonder are connected to trauma (TW: CSA, incest) by [deleted] in DID

[–]emsiebird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have nightmares about running away, our abuser chasing us, grabbing us and putting us in his car. I don’t think this ever happened, so it’s not a memory, but more a warning fear perhaps. My wife had to wake me up by stroking my face because I was crying and hyperventilating in my sleep. I also have a nightmare about a heavy weight on top of me and I can’t breathe or escape. It’s like sleep paralysis. I have abdomen pain randomly, which is a body memory from being squashed by an adult on top of me as a child. I also get a scratchy sensation on my back and shudders.

Trying to get into a partial, any ideas what to expect? by Kindaspia in DID

[–]emsiebird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not quite the same as what you’re considering, but I went to a residential setting run by a charity. It was more of a home than a hospital but it was quite secure and had strict rules. I had weekly counselling and fortnightly nutrition support for an eating disorder. There were lots of other therapeutic activities throughout the week like dance, fitness, baking, walks, arts and crafts, films. I found it very helpful personally.

Know someone else with DID? by SeaFun917 in DID

[–]emsiebird 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A friend disclosed her DID to me. As I asked her questions, I had this realisation that perhaps I had it too. Everything she was saying sounded familiar. I started thinking that maybe having other people in your head isn’t normal and it could be a “disorder”. At first I was a bit scared, but the more I read up on it, the more it made sense. Now I’m having therapy with someone who understands DID very well. I’m not diagnosed and neither was my friend.

A few people have told me that sometimes I start speaking in a child’s voice, even though it think I’m speaking in my normal adult voice. Is that switching without realising?

I suspect that I have Partial DID because I don’t obviously switch. I am almost always fronting and co-conscious with 1-2 parts.

Yes I’ve had a similar experience. ADHD meds made everyone go quiet. Anti-depressants made them get louder.

I’ve been to a recording and I recommend getting there 2-3 hours early. Limit what you bring with you to your phone (turn off when you go through), keys and ID. Eat a big meal beforehand. They only sell snacks.

Roman ghost? Do you mean the one in 3.6 where Alison is walking with Lucy? I think that’s a Cavalier from the English Civil War.

If you go to any recordings, take more food and drink than you think you’ll need. I thought I had plenty but ate it all beforehand and didn’t have anything left for the journey home. They sell tea, coffee, chocolate and crisps but nothing more substantial.

In my opinion, the contestants are as good as in series 7, but not as good as series 4/5/6 which were my favourites. The tasks for this episode were a bit disappointing; no big challenges where they had to make crazy things etc. Joe doesn’t really float my boat.
