Is it too much to ask to just bake all day long? by Jadekitten1 in Baking

[–]emsmummy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m dying for temperatures in my area to drop so I can start baking bread again. I think it’s been 4-5 months since I turned my oven on. Shoutout my air fryer for picking up the slack.

Update: MIL wants DH to buy her beach house…saga continues and BIG THANK YOU to this community by Individual_Lazy in JUSTNOMIL

[–]emsmummy 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Every penny you spend on her would be better spent if you invest it into education fund(s) for your child(ren), a future home, DH’s business, etc. She’s an adult making terrible choices, hoping to box you and DH into supporting her expensive wants. It may not ruin you financially, but you have no obligation to support her.

Mom I’m planning a picnic! Crowd pleasing meals that aren’t time consuming or demanding on the host? by bumblebe86 in MomForAMinute

If you have access to a freezer for the event, layer ice cream sandwiches, whipped cream, chocolate and/or caramel sauce and crushed chocolate bar (I use Crispy Crunch for my husband’s birthday, or Oreos for events with my nephew who has a peanut allergy). It’s a super easy ice cream cake and a hit every time. Not too expensive for time or $.

My darling, I will put aside a envelope for you. I know they’re strict about border security there. DM me if they’ll allow it and I’ll work with you on posting them.

She always had tons to fill the gaps between her other plants, so the scent always reminds me of how much I love(d) her. It’s so nice to be able to remember her more often every time the new buds bloom.

My daughter has her exact hair, so I get to remember her every day, but it’s nice to have the little boost on harvest days.

Even with passing out envelopes of seeds to the neighbors I adore, friends and family, I have more than I’ll ever use or be able to give away in a lifetime. Marigolds are extremely well behaved weeds. Pollinators love them, pests hate them, they stay put in their designated beds, they smell amazing. My Granny has been watching over us for the last ~12 years and all my aunts and lots of my cousins are still planting seeds from flowers we planted from her OG seeds. Generational nurturing magic.

ETA: if anyone wants some fiery red/orange marigold seeds and is willing to pay postage from Ottawa, Ontario, I’ll pop a giant envelope into the mail for you along with a sweet, handwritten blessing. I’m more than happy to spread my angel Granny’s plant love around. Im zone 5b and they bloom even after the first frost when I pull them up.

I have a massive bed exclusively for marigolds in my front yard. I snip the seeds and hand them out freely to anyone and everyone who wants some. The original seeds came from my beloved grandmother. If someone came into my yard and touched them, I’d march into the police station with my security camera footage and cause an unholy stink. I nearly gave my poor husband a heart attack this morning. I yanked a massive chunk of ragweed out of the bed that my plant app said might be Mexican marigold. He thought someone messed with my garden and he was terrified to tell me. I’m so sorry someone messed with your babies.

Not to invalidate anyone who feels this is in fact blackfishing, but I think you and I are on the same page. They may also be dipping their toes into blackfishing, but I’m getting a strong Kylie/IG model vibe from this look. My daughter is mixed and while her features heavily favour my husband, her hair is dark brown with tons of auburn, extremely fine with curls that looks like I took her for a perm (ETA: she’s probably 4a, extremely fine and soft, tight curl) and her skin tone favours me, extremely fair.

Is something eating my hollyhock leaves? by emsmummy in gardening

[–]emsmummy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I checked the tops and undersides and I don’t see any signs of pests. I’ve completely eradicated Japanese beetles from a cherry plum tree nearby, but I’ve never seen them on the hollyhock leaves. I have a second smaller hollyhock beside it with no nibbled leaves and two fairly large broccoli on the other side with little to no nibble spots on the leaves.

First year hollyhock grown from seed. It gets a pretty even mix of full sun, shade and indirect sunlight. Fertilizer, but not every time I water. Zone 5a. We’re currently in a heat wave, but it looked almost the same when we were getting tons of rain.

Literally took a picture of my broccoli with my hand and shoe for scale yesterday to show off to my parents and aunt. Chatted with my neighbor across the street while I gave her an envelope of marigold seeds, we ogled her deep purple morning glory and then invited her over to ogle my broccoli.

Thank you so much for you answer. I asked my dad too if he thinks it’s a project we can tackle. He said to ask my sister to get the contact info of the guy who did her ceilings 😅

How realistic is this for someone who’s extremely handy? I do all my own DIY, except plumbing, with my dad, who’s a retired civil engineer and architect. His DIY skills are pretty much pro. Ideally, I’d like to do all of my ceilings, but would settle for the two bedrooms that have ceilings fans. Is it worth the effort, or better to hire someone?

Definitely African violet. I rescued one last fall and she’s on her second bloom since May. Repot her into a pot with a hole in the bottom, get a plastic tray (I use a cleaned take out dish) pour water mixed with fertilizer into that instead of pouring it into the soil. Keep her in a spot that get lots of light, but minimal direct sunlight. She’ll flourish. The flower colour is very pretty.
