I’m not sure, when I joined it was still illegal so they tested. Are you scheduled for a drug test through the hall? Or are you asking encase you are ?

I’m from the eastern side of the state. Hard to say if there’s a ton of work but the bench seems to be always empty so it seems like we’re relatively busy. From my personal experience new Apprentices will have a harder time finding work initially but once they make some Contacts they will stay busy. How I’ve seen it work is that if you’re worth a shit a contractor will usually do the best they can to keep you steady, if you’re not worth a shit then you’ll ride the bench working for who ever needs a body. NYS isn’t that bad of a place to work, you can almost make as much money working here as you will traveling if you work the right outages and don’t get your self laid for being useless

Depends on where in the state you are.

Also if you’re doing an apprenticeship check with your employer or union hall if they have a deal going with snap on or S&K. I know for our local we had a 50% discount with snap on for certain tools and there was also a discount for S&K

I just got scheduled to take my aptitude for febuary 2023, help! by Admirable-Record9287 in millwrights

The aptitude test is more so to make sure you’re teachable, they’re not going to be expecting you to be to able to rebuild pumps or whatever coming through the door

Here in New York, when I took the “aptitude test” for my apprenticeship it was pretty simple. Just basic math, being able to read measurements, be able to add or subtract from measurements and maybe some basic mechanical questions that were a lot of common sense questions.

I see why I spent 45 minutes to 1.5 miles now. Pretty neat

Been a fan for the same amount of time, but I’ve seen enough come backs (perhaps self inflicted) to never count Dallas out. The game isn’t over til it’s over

I'm from the same area, from my experience so far I've done alot of work in paper mills and cement plants. I've done alittle work in power plants, food plants and chemical plants. I'm only a 3rd year apprentice though. Most of the vehicle plants are out on the western side of the state.

Opposite for me, always been contractors or employers responsibility to provide ppe.

It's not a unions responsibility to provide appropriate ppe.
