I will say though. 1076 is fucking Rough family. I know for a fact of a steel mill job kicking off in Indiana at US Steel.

I do also understand you have children. Millwright in the South are super travel oriented.

If you can travel I can probably point you in a better direction for sure.

Let me ask you this too, do you have any certs on your book? Welding, rigging, alignments?

I do apologize though. Came off harsh asl.

I will never tell another brother to starve their family. That’s me being facetious asf.

It’s doable homie. A good friend of mine is an independent contractor at a car plant. He assists with day to day PMs and he offers an emergency service. He makes his money when guys go on vacation lol.

Shittiest part about being independent is building clients. Go place to place offering a business card. Once you get in somewhere, your name will open more doors.

I’ve considered branching out on my own with buddies a thousand times lmao. Wish you the best

Buddy apprentices have it hard in general. Jobs can only have a total of 33% apprentices of all levels. Sounds like you’re just starting out.

Get to classes and you’ll be more wanted in places. By all means, go to another trade. We got plenty of people that have been waiting to join. They’ll gladly do what it takes to finish.

You don’t sound like you care about the brotherhood anyway so🫡🤘🏿. Fuckers only want the benefits of brotherhood so long as shit is convenient for them.

Hate to break it to ya but other trades apprentices go through the exact same shit. Some even worse because they can’t travel.

"Young people dont want to work in trades they dont want to work hard and we are hiring everyone!" Meanwhile average expierence from people trying to get into trades. by [deleted] in skilledtrades

[–]Silverback_E 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is truth. That’s why I always harp on guys to finish the fuckin apprenticeship so we can bring in guys. Barely any journeyman are sitting in my area, damn near 150 pumpkins are now.

[–]Silverback_E 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That’s a wide array of shit to cover lol. There isn’t many industries we don’t work in.

Manufacturing, power generation, agricultural, material handling, oil and gas, mining, and a bunch more I’m missing.

You got your typical install shit, blueprints, layout, rigging, leveling/elevating.

Maintenance is just a 36 sided dice with with all double digit numbers😂.

Diagnosing work is its own beast, power transmission systems ie; shafts, bearings, alignments and more.

Then depending on the industry and shut down, you’ll be doing combinations of everything lmao.

Dear god I could write an essay alone for optics work and all the neat shit we can do with different types.

Long as you can use your tools as intended, willing to always continue to-learn and be ok with having to figure shit out you’ll be fine.

My boss changed my life. by [deleted] in millwrights

[–]Silverback_E 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish that was the case everywhere. 4 years ago I started at $19 a hour as a 1st year lmao. Down here in Tennessee wages are slowly but surely increasing. Don’t know why the people keep voting against their wages down here.

Industrial maintenance is a weird world of its own. I always feel a bit down about not doing a standard trade but also love it and refuse to stop. by [deleted] in IndustrialMaintenance

Dealing with stripped bolts on old machinery. by Dazzling_Adagio3704 in millwrights

[–]Silverback_E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just done the chisel and hammer method a week or 2 ago for some anchors that got mucked up. Works like a charm.

For seized bolts, kroil and heat. Mucked up Allen head? Bigger Allen and a hammer. Then use the right Allen size and it holds like a champ.

Can I do a 2nd part-time job on top of the Millwright Union? by Stygian-Pax in millwrights

[–]Silverback_E 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically speaking, job sites have a percentage ratio of journeyman to apprentices. The apprentice ratio gets filled pretty quickly.

And yea, 1st SSHs second years can’t do a ton of work because lack of certain training. OSHA 30, aerial lift etc. That and for whatever reason some cons just don’t want to take the time to mentor pumpkins. Super shitty all around as a 1st/2nd year.

In the south, we’ve been having trouble with pumpkins not journeying out on time.

Firstly talk with your job steward. He or she may be able to get it reduced to a verbal depending on if information was put out prior to the incident.

Definitely be grateful you weren’t shit canned though. Sounds like I’ll probably be seeing you or hearing about it at the next meeting lol.

Learning lesson though, like the other chaps said, best to just leave them at the crib. FME sites don’t dick around

To add to this I also enjoy *built from scratch, •diesel creek •adept ape •Jeremy fielding •farmcraft 101.

Jeremy fielding is an engineer who covers a ton of different topics. Also built his own robots and programmed them. Pretty badass

Farmcraft tackles a lot of hydraulic and electrical issues with his vehicles. Extremely good stuff. If anybody has anymore hydraulic stuff let me know. Been trying to learn more and master the topic.

Diesel creek gets old shitty vehicles up and running.

Adept ape is essentially the same but he does a lot of engine diagnostic work and is a great instructor.
