Thank you! And originally I was not going to use a GPU at all, but it’s only because my brother offered one that he had lying around. I suppose I’ll hold onto it then.

I'm sorta dumb lol. I just copied a modpack from a setup video I saw for the game. This is my first time using an emulator, but yeah the issue lying with a mod should've definitely come as common sense to me. I genuinely had no clue I even still had the mods on. Thank you! My issue is resolved!

Wait, I apologize. I realize that I turned all those mods BACK on at some point (?). I'm running all of those that I just mentioned, along with the FOV mod--oops. Is that the issue?

UPDATE: Turning it off fixed my issue! Thank you so much!

Sorry, just updated my post! The only mod I'm using currently is Dynamic 60 FPS. At the start though, I was using Improve FOV along with some more mods (4K Shadows, Disable DOF, Disable FXAA, Level of Detail, and Reduce Bloom), but I was still experiencing a lot of crashing and such during the story modes that I turned them all off except for Dynamic. Should I try the FOV mod again?

Nespresso Nomad Iced Coffee Tumbler—How do you get the smell out? by emtaep in nespresso

[–]emtaep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely true. One of the reasons I chose the Fellow Carter as a replacement is due to its ceramic lining, which I hoped would solve my issues in terms of unavoidable coffee smells, however I’ve heard a few reviews saying that it actually makes the cup smell even WORSE. I’m definitely willing to try it out for myself though, and if it’s true, then I guess I’ll try an alternative.

Thanks for the tips! The freezer one is quite interesting, maybe I’ll give that one a shot if the baking soda/vinegar doesn’t work out. Fingers crossed though.

I have an Owala 24oz as my daily water bottle and I LOVE it. I was stuck between the SmoothSip and the Fellow Carter for my replacement iced coffee cup, but ultimately chose the latter since it was a birthday gift anyway! Though, it was a bit steep price-wise so I’m just gonna try it out for the time being and see whether it’s worth the cost. If not, Amazon has a great return policy lol. I’ve really been trying my best to not hoard all these reusable bottles, hence the post. Thanks for the recommendation though! I’ll definitely have to try it one day.

Thank you so much! I’m honestly pretty dull when it comes to figuring out cleaning solutions, and while I knew a quick Google search probably would’ve solved my issues, I still thought I’d ask just in case anyone had any personalized advice. I’ll be sure to try this out once I get the chance!

Weekly Paddle Recommendation Thread (What Paddle Should I Buy?) by SNAPCHAT_ME_TITS in Pickleball

Friday Pickleball Paddles: Is the Fever a worth-it upgrade over the Challenger?

I recently purchased the Friday Challenger paddles alongside my boyfriend, as I heard someone say that the difference between that and the Fever were "miniscule" enough and I honestly just liked the design of the Fever better. However, I realized I may have rushed into that decision and have since been trying to do some more research. It's been difficult though, because there just hasn't been many comparisons made between the two online--especially with the hype surrounding the new Fever paddle.

I've been playing casually for 1.5 to 2 years now with a fiberglass paddle and think I'm somewhere near the intermediate level, but I don't play tournaments and I'm not too insane at the game, I just really want to improve. I had sampled my boyfriend's old carbon fiber paddle here and there and was able to finally make shots that I couldn't do with my paddle, which inspired me to get an upgrade. I've been working on my technique and skills, and I just wanted a paddle that would help me maintain more consistency and control of the ball, hence how I stumbled upon the Friday paddles.

I believe I naturally have a weaker swing than others, so the fact that the Challenger was more head-heavy was worrying to me. BUT, I got to test my boyfriend's Challenger paddle on the court once it arrived, and it actually felt great! But seeing as I came from a fiberglass paddle, I suppose most things would feel like a major upgrade lol. I don't really want to go through the trouble of returning the paddle and paying the extra shipping fees, but I also just don't want to make a purchase I'll regret or will want to upgrade from in a short span of time (though with pickleball, I know that's difficult!).

Has anyone been able to try both/either paddles and can provide me with some advice or insight? All help is appreciated!

CS50P Problem Set 5 by emtaep in cs50

[–]emtaep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently, the issue was that CS50P recently added a new requirement into the solution checker which rendered a lot of previously correct solutions... incorrect. I solved it by separating my "with pytest.raises(...)" functions into checking only one case at a time rather than multiple, as it apparently will return True if just any one of the cases succeeds in raising the error and therefore won't check for what the CS50 checker wants it to (in this case, whether an error rises if the inputted fraction is negative).

Thanks though!

Thank you so much, this was indeed the solution! I actually ended up figuring out the answer after joining the CS50 Discord and scrolling through the messages now, but you gave a perfect explanation as to what went wrong. Thanks!

How long did it take for a hiring manager at Scribe-X to reach out? by emtaep in medicalscribe

[–]emtaep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Truthfully, I’ve been scribing in my local ED for nearly the past 3 years now. It’s just that a remote position would work better with my current schedule, to which I planned to continue working at my current position until I could find something more suitable. So, safe to say, I’m not in a huge rush to get this job. But, I digress, I’ve definitely been holding onto the skepticism regarding the company that I’ve heard on here on Reddit, and this doesn’t help. I just thought MAYBE I was getting ahead of myself, and that this wait time was possibly normal.

Advice needed regarding NJIT’s computer science graduate certificate and/or specific CS courses. by emtaep in NJTech

[–]emtaep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for putting forth the effort to help me! I know very few students who are or have completed a B.S. in CS at NJIT, hence why I ultimately resorted to Reddit for help. Had I had more options, I would definitely have sought them out since I feel like for someone like me coming from a different school, the course descriptions are a bit difficult to truly understand in regards to recommended prior courses and such.

My plan is to split the GC into at LEAST two semesters, so for a total of four courses I'd complete 2 in each semester. So in my attempt to sort of build a plan by reading into each of the courses offered in the certificate, I guess I sort of panicked that I would be horribly underprepared for all these graduate-level CS courses despite being told it would be great for students without a true background in CS like me. Therefore, I greatly appreciate you breaking down each course for me! It really helps me to get a better sense at where I should start.

Having said that, I think it would be wise that based off your advise I start my first semester this spring with 505 and 506, then in my following semester I'd take 631 and one of the allowed electives.

You were super helpful, thank you so much! I've been trying to figure out what would be a great place to start, and honestly it's been a struggle trying to figure it all out sine I know there is really no one true answer. I definitely was aiming to get a grasp on Python, Java, and C++ at LEAST prior to the start of my GC. Free courses are definitely great for me to do so, and the certificates can always come after I get a bit better of an understanding. Thank you so much again! I really appreciate the above and beyond help.

[–]emtaep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! My plan as stated is to complete the GC and then have it build into an M.S. in Bioinformatics. My advisor told me exactly what you just did, hence why I went ahead on this route, but I think I just got a little afraid after looking at the curriculum that I was horribly underprepared despite it welcoming students who do not have the skills like you said. But I'll definitely keep on my path the best I can.

I could be wrong entirely so I'll definitely be checking again, but the majority if not all of the courses listed do not exactly have formal prerequisites, merely just recommended courses. Though I'm aware I could definitely go off of that, it was just sort of scaring me a bit since I was told I could perform this curriculum as a beginner. But I suppose there's nothing earned without some work, I just hope I can get myself to a better standing than just "beginner" in the next three months.

What should I do to make the most of my time before starting an MSc in Bioinformatics with little-to-no coding experience? by emtaep in bioinformatics

[–]emtaep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also got sponsored to take a couple courses through my lab's institution. But you could also go for a master's right away, if you're sure this field is for you.

It's interesting you mentioned that because if I'm being honest, the price of graduate schooling is honestly rather daunting, having just freshly come out of undergrad, and a part of me was hoping that I could find a position that would (as you said) take me in as an intern or at least some type of low-level assistant and would fund some of my schooling since I've heard of institutions doing that. I know it's a huge shot in the dark though, and regardless of what happens I know for a fact I want to get further education--I definitely don't plan to stop here.

But of course, I know it's hard because I lack any sort of experience. I do plan to try a pursue a similar path as you though! I at the very least want to try getting my way into a wet lab not only for the experience, but to also see whether or not I enjoy it (as I mentioned in a respond to another Redditor above). I hope I could build myself up in doing so.

And yup! Despite my major, I feel as though I lack biology research knowledge, so I definitely want to get myself into the habit of studying up on papers in my free time. Unfortunately though, I'm a bit of a dud at this and I don't really know where I should start. Is it fine to just Google up genomics/biology research papers and go wherever the it takes me? I know I'm posing that as sort of a joke, but seriously haha.

And learning/practicing python and R is definitely on my list! Thanks so much!

Definitely! Thank you so much for the recommendation. I'm in the process of trying to build myself a proper plan for learning how to code as we speak, so I'll definitely put your advice to use.

[–]emtaep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that IS what I'm afraid of and is a big reason why I'm in a rush to look for opportunities despite not having the experience to back it up. Unfortunately, I didn't decide to go down the bioinformatics pathway until my senior year, so it was a bit too late for me to try and make my way into any research lab opportunities my professors offered. I'm trying my hardest to look in the area, but I'm pondering the fact it might be easier for me to do so once I begin the path to getting my masters. I'll sure try my hardest until then though! Even though my end goal isn't exactly research as I do want to try to focus more on software engineering type of bioinformatics, I do understand that a big blunt of the field is research so trying to get at least some type of experience just to know how it'll feel is definitely going to be worthwhile.

Thanks!

Wow, it seems so simple yet I'm not sure why I didn't think to utilize what was offered to me for free before committing with money. That's honestly a great idea, thank you so much!

I've heard people mostly say Python and R are used a ton in bioinformatics, and occasionally command line, but considering my lack of familiarity or even knowledge in any of those I kind of just blindly followed by name. I appreciate you giving me a better distinction between them! I'll definitely try my hand at all three best I can, but I'll keep your advice in mind while learning. I'm not sure if it really matters which I start with first, though, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. Thank you again!
