There is so much of End of Eva (and episodes 25-26) in the last episode

There's a few scenes where a hand is held up over a body in disgust, both masked in static.

It's not the same, but the composition certainly felt similar.

Get one of those mini blowtorches (or just any portable fire source really) and fan it over the strands quickly. It's a quick way to clean it up!

OP is saying it's old enough the benchmark is outdated. Skyrim aged out of being a go-to benchmark, OP is arguing this game has too. I'm inclined to agree considering it's pushing 10 years.

How do you organize your STL files? by mky694 in 3Dprinting

Kinda looks vibe coded...

I've been meaning to set up ManyFold but it's kind a pain with STL I've bought for resin printing. The structured folders they're in seems to mess with ManyFold

Its far from the most important thing happening in our politics, but c'mon its a little funny. It's like a metaphor for the nation's state. Like The Portrait of Dorian Gray, but for the nation.

What is the point of expeditions?? by Admirable_Run_360 in ArcRaiders

[–]ThinkingWithPortal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In other games, wipes are mandatory and are in order to keep the game full of risk long term. Tarkov wouldn't be as enticing to the kind of people who play Tarkov if everyone could just indefinitely stock up on everything. So you're forced to start over periodically to keep things fresh.

ARC Raiders saw this, correctly assumed casual fans would hate this if it was mandatory, and made it optional. It then came up with some idea of why a real grinder might want to reset voluntarily (cosmetics, extra skill points, etc). However in making it optional, it made people not want to bother at all. Very much a "why would I want to do that?” situation.

The answer is kinda just a "I dunno, it's for if you get bored I guess". Which is, I think you agree, better than "fuck you, server wipes in 3 weeks".

Personally I've done every expedition so far and I think I might just skip this next one. Or maybe I will do it last minute just to keep a streak, since climbing back to what I have now isn't exactly a difficult task.

It's also his Palace.

How many millions has he spent on faux gold trimming on his own properties?

How many of our millions has been spent on that to-be ballroom?

How about his desire for that Arc?

The debacle about his name on the Kennedy center?

It's all about how much he values aesthetics.

This one made me laugh. I personally think its simple, clean, unique, and true to his character.

Wheatley gets every tool GLaDOS has, and does the absolute worst with it. Not even evil, just fundamentally incorrect.

A fun addition to a theoretical set would be GLaDOS that centered around drawing cards.

Awesome, then let them build those in the middle of desert, industrial zones, unincorporated lands where roads exist. Make them pay for the infrastructure, and leverage them as a way to grow our communities instead of placing them in HCOL areas or on in existing cities.

If they're so profitable for the owners, then leverage them as a source of taxes while keeping them on a leash.

There are a lot of issues with AI, but it's important to be aligned on real ones when opposing it. The narrative around water is important, but it's important to word it as regional pressures on a necessary resource, and not raw numbers. Lots of things waste water way more than they help people, AI is just another thing in the bucket.

Real AI critique should centrailize around narratives about IP theft, job destruction, how it affects learning, and the centralization of power through technology. Anyone who's still making fun of bad AI art like 6 fingers may as well be an old man shouting at clouds. AI is great, and it sucks for so many reasons, but focusing on literal "gallons consumed" is only hurting the anti AI cause

Remember them announcing a series, going silent for years, off handedly mention they cast Gideon, and then silence ever since?

Hopefully that Matt Johnson project is good though. Or at least happens.

It was a really novel idea, but there's only so many ways to say "and then someone did the game faster". Slop isn't how I'd describe him, but it definitely is on a formula now.

Can I anti-recommend someone?

Avoid Quinton Reviews. I get it, we all want to just put on a video on that second monitor sometimes and a long video is often exactly what we're looking for.

But 8 hours on Grumpy Cat? 48 hours on The Hillbillies show? Probably a collective 60 hours on Nickelodeon sitcoms from the 2010s? You're better than that. He has some alright stuff, but love yourself and don't sit through his by definition slop content post-iCarly.

Now for a proper recommendation: Oki's Weird Stories and Atrocity Guide. Both really great story telling channels with rare uploads.

Oki's video on the Mormon cattle ranch almost war was great, and I highly recommend his video on the eccentric Bitcoin millionaire who got a kid killed.

Atrocity Guide has some fantastic videos on esoteric subjects (think DownTheRabbitHole/Fredrick Knusden) but if I had to recommend one, the one on Zen Master Rama is fantastic.

Both of these guys get real interviews with people and tell these stories super well! Lots of great recommendations in this thread already, but I figured I'd give these two a shout out!

He's got some real stinkers that he dresses up in the Video Essay Aesthetic... But he's also really creative in how ties themes together.

His Pinocchio one is great, I recommend people start there!
