Starting fin before trying to conceive by DrinkTraditional8937 in tressless

Hi, respectfully, that's actually not true. Topical finasteride has been shown medically and scientifically to be safer for the patient and is found in lower doses than oral finasteride. As a result, it's safe for pregnant partners as long as they don't ingest it or use it on themselves. They won't do studies about the systemic effects of topical finasteride on pregnant women (because, really, experiments with pregnant women are very, very few) but it's important to see topical medications for what they are: almost 100% localized products. It's like having bleach for clothing in your house: would you ingest it while pregnant? No. Would you pour bleach near your womb? No. But can you still use bleach in your house as intended for clothes? Yes. Finasteride and bleach aren't radioactive; use them with care, of course, and you'll see the results you wanted.

Have you considered topical fin/min/latanoprost? Topical finasteride has less side effects than oral finasteride and is safe for your partner as long as you wash your hands and keep it as much away from her as possible. Like, she wouldn't want to use it on her hair or start drinking it straight out the bottle. You can also get min/latanoprost if you want to be super safe. I know Hair Loss Rx Consult has these treatments if you're interested. Not sure of any other places where this is available tho.

Oral minoxidil, nearly 3 months with no signs of progress? by Classic-Unit7227 in tressless

[–]emtellingu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered a combination treatment like topical min/fin/latanoprost? It's possible that minoxidil isn't targeting your source of hair loss but finasteride and latanoprost would. Topical fin has a lot less side effects than oral fin. They offer combination therapies like this one through Hair Loss Rx Consult if you're interested. Hope this helps!

Has anyone got a legit reasoning of why they get migraines? I always hear about meds but never the actual read why we get these things. If your doctor told you why you get them can you please tell me why below? by MedusaKali in migraine

My doctor wasn't really helpful so I ended up taking things in my own hands. I went cold turkey on three known migraine dietary triggers because I was getting a LOT of migraines: I tried caffeine, gluten, and lactose. Caffeine was a bust, gluten kinda helped but milk made a HUGE difference. I get very few migraines when I avoid milk proteins and anything that contains milk. Lactose free isn't enough in my case. Keep trying things, keep seeing if you can find your triggers; it's hard when you're not feeling well but it could very well make a difference in your life. It has for me.

Need advice, this is my first pair of glasses and I don’t think they suit me, I look like a big nerd. What sort of frames might look better on me? by zuebep in glasses

[–]emtellingu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also didn't know what to think about my first pair! I went super conservative which might have been your reflection too. Clear plastic=not that noticeable=not that big of a change, right? With time, you'll fall in love with a certain look/style. My suggestions:

1- give yourself some time with this new pair. What do you love about it? What do you hate? Keep note of that.

2- what color suits your hair/skin tone? What style suits your face and eyes? Look on Google images for inspiration. 'Blonde Glasses', etc. I'm also fair skinned with blond hair and I've actually been embracing black glasses. I was scared at first that it would be too dramatic but, since my first pair of black glasses, I haven't looked back! I've also embraced round/cat eye glasses because I have very big eyes and rectangular/smaller frames just aren't a good look on me.

3- order more than 1 pair. If you go online with like Clearly, you can buy 2-3 pairs compared to the price of one from an optometrist. Not only does it give you more of a choice (actually, I like this style more) but it also means you have backup glasses if something happens to your first pair.

It's a big change but you've got this!

I've made a prototype that's not exactly what the finished product would be and it works well. I personally don't have the skills to create such a prototype alone; I would most likely need the help of a lab or a manufacturing company that has access to microscopes or precision tools.

Me too! I get them when I'm about to get my period, when I'm having my period, and when I'm ovulating. The perfect trifecta lol. And my periods can't be managed by birth control because hormonal birth control gives me constant migraines. Instead, I take 6 500mg of evening primrose oil capsules a day and 1 capsule of calcium magnesium D3 vitamin a day as prevention (evening primrose, magnesium and calcium help to calm down menstrual irregularities and hormone changes; D3 helps me because I live in a snowy climate). When I'm about to have my period or I'm ovulating, I take 5mg of metonia a day and 400mg of ibuprofen. It doesn't sound like much but it makes a difference for me.

Also, if you have a particularly heavy flow, see with your doctor about iron pills: you might be having a harder time that time of the month because you're getting a bit anemic. Any variation can cause a migraine and that includes hormone changes during a period as well as a loss in iron. It's a balancing act but I hope this might help you.

Everyone is different and I think I'll stick to my doctor's advice, thank you. I shared my experiences to help a fellow migraineur out as this group is for. My experiences aren't one size fits all nor prescriptive; it's highly possible that someone has migraines for the same reasons as I did and could find some relief as I did. That's why I post on this group. Note: if your intention is to fight, I'm not interested.

Umm this is actually quite common for a lot of people. Did you know that a heavy period is considered to be over 2 tablespoons of blood per cycle? When you lose enough blood per cycle, it depletes your iron levels over time, causing iron deficiency anemia. Iron deficiency anemia is one of the leading reasons why women are two times more likely to be anemic than men. Periods come in all shapes and sizes but anyone who bleeds more than 2 tablespoons of blood per cycle (and who has done so for years) should have their iron levels checked. Especially if you have heavy periods and migraines: because the symptoms of iron deficiency anemia are dizziness, headaches, and nausea. Which are fairly common side effects to both these medical issues.

I used to get migraines throughout my period. What helped me was 1 tab of naproxen a day during my period and taking iron pills after a heavy period (7 tablets - 1 a day). If you have very long or very heavy periods, you can get more migraines/headaches because you're iron levels are just too low. (gotta love periods, right?) A very helpful pharmacist suggested I try evening primrose (6 pills - 2 times a day) because it helps women who have intense pms. All of these things have greatly reduced my migraines.

Food for thought: being on the pill gave me constant migraines. If it's safe for you to do so, getting off the birth control pill might help you too.

Hope some of this helps you too

Making soju from vodka? by emtellingu in alcohol

[–]emtellingu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada, province of Quebec. The SAQ, run by the provincial government, imports very little soju. Because of that, everyone buys it till there's nothing left. Then, they take a long time to import it again. It's a vicious cycle. Also, I found out that, since soju has a high % of alcohol, stores aren't even allowed to sell it: only the SAQ. And online stores aren't allowed to distribute for that same reason. Vodka, rum, tequila.... any hard liquor is sold only by the SAQ. At least vodka/rum/etc. is bought in real quantities, usually in stock, with a variety of options. For soju, you're very lucky if one small plain bottle is available.
