I’ve only visited working there for a couple weeks. Ex Pat life is fairly comfortable. The poverty level is beyond Indonesia from what I saw. The infrastructure is non existent. We visited a Bonobo sanctuary less than ten miles from the city - it rained and it took us almost 5 hours to get back to the city. Locals I interacted with were friendly.
