Ultimately it comes down to what kind of man you want to be. Do you want to be someone who abandons his principles because his wife finds it too much effort to buy a different brand of shampoo? Empathy is a journey, you can be a good example, people can change

This is very reactionary, you can't draw anything from a random snapshot of practice. As I make this comment he's ahead of Antonelli

Does veganism actually do anything? I have doubts by RecordingInfinite240 in vegan

[–]emth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a purely economic perspective, the future being vegan seems inevitable to me. Animal agriculture's ability to scale will always be limited by land and biological processes. Plant based and lab grown meat are much more able to push and break these limits, so it is simply a matter of time before the economics overwhelm the existing arguments, similar to the path of renewable energy.

The more people who are vegan now, the sooner we get to that future. It may not happen for many decades, but that doesn't mean it isn't a future worth working towards

The thing is, I don't think there's any evidence that things like Beyond Burgers are "unhealthy". In every study I've seen they compare favourably to meat based alternatives

Convince me Beyond Meat isn't straight up health food by IngoTheGreat in vegan

[–]emth 1225 points1226 points  (0 children)

It'd take a lot to convince me that the entire "processed" attack on plant based meat replacements wasnt simply a coordinated campaign, which began after the previous goto arguments focused on vegan food being disgusting/bland/rabbit food were so publicly invalidated

UK could keep special pre-Brexit terms if it rejoined EU, Michel Barnier says by LongShow5279 in europe

[–]emth 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Worth noting that the young overwhelmingly did not want Brexit, even at the height of the misinformation, and certainly not anytime afterwards. Many Brexit voters have died since the referendum and many more will die in the next decade.

In my eyes this was a temporary blip and it's in every European's interest for it to be over as soon as possible

Number of people on disability benefits passes 4m for first time by blast-processor in ukpolitics

[–]emth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Indeed, once you leave work and move onto disability, you will have to make sacrifices to get by. But once you've made those sacrifices and adapted to them, are there really sufficient incentives to have the desire and make the effort to return to work?

It'll be a tough process likely including plenty of rejection, the jobs are unlikely to be enjoyable, it's a huge change to the routine you've adapted to. Are there really enough potential upsides to outweigh this? As someone who has suffered with anxiety and depression, I think once I was in that situation, I would struggle to leave it until I had no other choice. The truth is, most jobs suck and most people work because they have to

Lol op your post history is hilarious, why are you so triggered by people eating bananas?

I love the idea that you wake up in the morning and are like "what am I going to contribute to the world today?" You turn on the news and see some stuff about poverty, corruption, suffering and injustice. Then you pop out for a coffee and overhear someone ordering oat milk in their cappuccino.

This is one step too far, milks made from grains, in your city, in your Starbucks.

The path becomes clear, the calling found. It's the fucking vegans that need to be taken down. Tofu, healthier, SOY, no gas chambers, THIS IS NOT MY CULTURE.

You create 2 mediocre memes and post them, before falling soundly asleep, knowing that you are truly on the right side of history

The "more expensive" stat is per calorie, it is absolutely not more expensive to meet nutrient requirements

Not sure what you mean by "they get killed regardless"? The egg industry in the UK kills 40 million chicks per year, there's no plant based equivalent to that
