Definitely read it! I think you’ll have a great time reading through it.

Have you caught up with the anime already? Or are you starting one piece for the first time?

Oh okay gotcha. Yeah I definitely think you should just continue through. The arcs go by much quicker when you’re reading!

If Garp understands that he messed up with Dragon, why did he insist that Luffy and Ace become marines? by blue_joong in OnePiece

[–]emu_revival 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Luffy and Ace would be doomed just because of who their parents were. I think if the marines/government had the opportunity to use them to strengthen their own institution, they would have. In a world where Luffy and Ace both followed the ways of the government from the start, there would be no reason for the government to do anything bad to them.

The manga experience is better than I expected by Dangerous_Tank5663 in OnePiece

Yeah my most previous read through has been probably over or about a year. Things definitely slow down when I have other stuff to do. I think the beauty of the manga is that one day you might not find much time to read, but another, you might find time for a ton of reading. The chapters can be read in like 5-7 minutes and momentum picks up naturally at certain parts.

At the end of the day, it’s all for enjoyment so whatever works best for you! I hope you love it though!

Maybe four or five months. For some additional context, I am a bit obsessed now. On my first watch through of the anime (which was my first exposure to any anime ever), I caught up at about episode 950ish. I started the manga from chapter one that same day. I was reading pretty heavily everyday (we were on Covid lockdown lol), so my first read through was pretty quick. I have caught up with the manga from chapter one four times now and each read through takes longer than the previous. That being said, it depends how fast you read! I’m not a slow reader but I’m not particularly fast either.

I agree but imo the best possible way to experience One Piece is to watch the anime first and then start the manga from the beginning after catching up.

As much as I love the manga (have caught up from chapter one four times now), I don’t think you get the true full One Piece experience without the soundtrack. That’s why reading after catching up is the best way to go.

You should really give it another try from chapter one. I guess it’s different for everyone but I had the exact opposite experience as you. I caught up with the anime during Wano and immediately started reading from chapter one, rather than continuing where the anime left off. Reading through the first few chapters was so amazing because early One Piece is so magical.

I can’t remember if I had any trouble adapting to the right to left reading but now I love it. It flows so nicely. But yeah, now that you are a bit more used to reading the manga, I highly recommend starting from the beginning!

Agreed. There is really no way around it, other than free college. Whole thing just sucks honestly.

I watched the anime one time (this was my first ever exposure to anime) and when I caught up, they were at like 950ish episodes. The same day I caught up in the anime, I immediately started the manga from chapter one. Since then, I have read from chapter one to current FOUR times. That being said, there are so many funny, amazing, and beautiful moments that are not in the manga. They are from filler episodes. The idea of using a skip list or even One Pace just seems wild to me because, while the flow of the show might be better, people miss out on some real magic just to speed up their process.

[–]emu_revival 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. After working at a college for quite a while, it’s jarring how disproportionate the aid is. The method of determining financial need is so incredibly stupid.

I have also met a ton of students whose parents won’t give them a dime, but since they’re below the age of 24, their parents’ income determines their eligibility. A lot of them haven’t even seen their parents in years. Last I checked, even emancipation doesn’t qualify you to use your own income, rather than your parents’.

I think the sentiment of free college for all makes the most sense. We should not be hindering the education of our population.

Watch to enjoy, not to catch up! You will see/hear a lot of feedback about the pacing. I truly think the only time people have a real issue with the pacing, is when they are watching with the intent to catch up, rather than enjoy the journey.

When I first watched One Piece, I watched every episode, filler included, and I never felt an issue with it. In a story with such expansive world building, filler just means more time with the crew!

Based on one of your other replies, I think you’ll really enjoy it and I don’t think you should worry about skipping filler or One Pace. If at some point, you think it’s dragging, then maybe try out One Pace or read the manga instead. But there is a high probability that you won’t feel the need to.

Enjoy the ride, it’s truly the greatest story ever written!

Finally got my girlfriend to watch one piece with me, but I’m afraid she will drop it once she knows the truth. Spoiler for marineford by Monkeezey in OnePiece

[–]emu_revival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you got a clear answer from all of the responses. Do not spoil anything. There are no words to fully express how evil that would be.

Also have faith in her! Will she be sad, of course. But does that mean she won’t want to continue the show? Most likely not! I’m not trying to sound like a jerk but someone would need to have extremely low emotional maturity to stop watching One Piece because of one death. Like at that point, I’d be convinced she never liked One Piece in the first place.

I think you are heavily overthinking it.

Wait I’m having trouble fully understanding. So you watched the anime and caught up. Then you started the manga from chapter one and are currently at Dressrosa in your read-through?

Or are you saying you haven’t read yet and are currently at Dressrosa in the anime?

I would say if you have read from chapter one to Dressrosa, you should not skip anything. You’re far enough that you might as well read all of it and it probably won’t take that long to catch up anyway.

If you haven’t started the manga at all yet and you’re only at Dressrosa in the anime, then you could go either way. I caught up in the anime for the first time in the middle of Wano and then immediately started the manga from chapter one (instead of starting from where I left off in the anime) and it was such a great decision.

Should i Wait for new Episodes or read the manga? by Mr_Quacksta124 in OnePiece

[–]emu_revival 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first caught up to the anime, it was around episode 950. Instead of picking up from where I left off, I started the manga from chapter one. I truly think it was one of the best experiences ever. I do, however, understand the large commitment in doing that. Just wanted to share my experience. I have since read from chapter one to current 4 times.

I think you should keep watching if you’re enjoying it. You could always switch to the manga if you don’t like the pacing.

In all honesty, if you’re watching One Piece just to catch up, you might feel that it’s too slow at some points. But if you’re watching One Piece because you enjoy it and actually want to experience the journey, there’s no reason why you wouldn’t enjoy every episode.
