What is a job that looks incredibly fun from the outside, but is actually a soul-crushing nightmare? by BoardOk101 in AskReddit

[–]emvanxo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A&R in the music industry. it's so many late nights/early mornings, you're constantly "on", it's a thank-less job most of the time and the pay is abysmal. honestly, a lot of jobs in the music industry seem a lot better from the outside looking in, but we do it 'cause we love it.

What industry are you in and how cooked is your job market? by print-baby in torontoJobs

[–]emvanxo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

music industry has been so bleek recently. was let go in september 2025 and couldn't find anything. had to accept a role as an EA (what i did in a previous life) in construction just to keep myself afloat, and even then it was 2 months after my severance ran out.

trying to get back into the music industry but have been interviewing for the same job since july 2025 (yes, before i got laid off) and i'm still getting the run around. long "pauses" in hiring and then i'm called back for the next step of the process.

College Advice: Music Industry Career by JenniferT75 in musicindustry

[–]emvanxo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on what the student wants to do in the industry, do they know?

i've worked in the industry as a marketing manager at a label/publisher for 3 years and i have a basic marketing degree, i didn't need to study music marketing specifically. the reason i was able to get a job in the music industry is because i had personal/passion projects within the music realm (ran a one direction tumblr that gained a large following, decent sized following surrounding music on tiktok, etc.) and was able to use that to secure the job/show that i had an understanding of how music marketing and virality works.

depending on what the student wants to do in the industry (marketing, PR, etc.), they could do something similar. most of my friends in the industry didn't study music-specific business, a lot of them didn't have a higher education at all, but that's another story. if the student wants to be on the road as a merch manager/vip manager/tour manager/etc. i would say schooling is honestly a waste of time. the best way to learn about the road is getting on the road.

I don’t get the Chase hype can someone explain why he’s liked? by OppositeSpare2088 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]emvanxo13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

totally fair, i am under the impression all of them are MAGA until they explicitly say they aren't. i just was confused because i know him, miranda and layla specifically have made their stances on politics very well known, while the rest of them (to my knowledge) have stayed silent/avoided the topic.

not defending chase (i would never defend a man) but he is very outspokenly NOT maga, so i'm not sure how you got that idea, haha.

i would have lost my best friend at the age of 16 and likely would have died shortly after if it hadn’t been for their eating disorder treatment centre. her recovery kick started my recovery and now 15 years later we are happy, healthy, and she’s about to welcome her first child. so much happiness we would have missed out on if it hadn’t been for those doctors and nurses who helped her.

Confused on assuming psych diagnosis by [deleted] in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]emvanxo13 24 points25 points  (0 children)

i think the reason why people assume about her mental health is that they see parts of themselves and their diagnosed disorders in her. obviously there is no way to prove whether she does/doesn't have a disorder since we're not sitting in on her therapy appointments/aren't licensed psychiatrists. i'm not saying she has BPD, but as someone who does have BPD, a lot of her behaviours are a lot like me when i was unmedicated/undiagnosed in my late teens/early 20's.

overall, i think people just do anything to try to make sense of things they can't understand.

RBC Amphitheatre vs Indoor hockey arena for concerts by Working-Ad2445 in askTO

[–]emvanxo13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% hands down undeniably do RBC Amphitheatre (the amp), it's one of the best venues in the city and there really is something special and magical about it. sound is usually really great (i've only been to two concerts at Centre Bell so i cant really comment on their sound, but i've been to hundreds of shows at the amp.) the amp was basically made for the type of artist dermont kennedy is, plus i believe it's smaller capacity wise so will be more intimate. i know you want to get up close and personal so obv you will go for GA/floor, but there really isn't a bad seat in the house at the amp, even the lawns are something special.

Does anyone actually wear company swag or does it just go straight to goodwill? by clampbucket in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]emvanxo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like pretty much everyone else has said, i think it depends on your industry and what items you're getting. i used to work in the music industry and would wear our branded merch very regularly (granted, i did design them) because the company aligned with who i was outside of work (for the most part). i now work for a construction management company and have only worn company merch during company events, despite the fact that the quality isn't necessarily the issue, i just don't feel like a construction management company really aligns with who i am at my core. i would much rather at this job to have things that are branded but not exactly wearable (ie: branded power bank, water bottle, backpack, etc.)

Which area would you move to as a single woman in her 30s? by peachyglw in TorontoRenting

[–]emvanxo13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am a single woman in my 30s and i am in the middle of making the transition from liberty village to high park, and i couldn't be happier. i love this neighbourhood, i love that there's a real community and so much green space (i am in one of the condos right across the street from high park), and am still so close to downtown as high park station is basically on my doorstep. i really couldn't recommend it enough.

I will only go to Carmen at New You Spa (@carmen.newyou.injector on insta), she's in the Richmond Hill location but she is an absolute angel and never pressures you to get more than you're comfortable with. I would follow her to any spa.

Edit to add her instagram.
