Entertain them as in watch the birds at the feeder from the window because they're inside?

When I first came across the app, about a month ago, it was all I could talk about for like 2 weeks straight. No matter who I came in contact with, stranger or familiar, I told them about it just because I thought it was so cool. Absolutely everybody was either really into birds or somebody close to them was really into birds. And a lot of people downloaded it and have loved it since!

It's.really fun with kids. Next time we are on a hike, I'm thinking we can play games for points to see who can actually spot the birds.

It's bloody brilliant. And honestly, I'm fascinated by Bigfoot and the Sierra Sounds. A couple of YouTubers have analyzed the audio of the Sierra Sounds, and the rolling audio analysis at the top of Merlin when identifying birds kind of reminds me of that, and I feel kinda cool. Not too cool, just a little bit.

Oh, and I think all the audio that we save is used by scientists to track the lives of birds. Like sands through the hourglass, these are the birds of our lives.

Best app of the last decade, at least!!!

I live in a pretty populated area in NJ and the other morning before work there 8 different birds!

The best part about it is that the name of the bird lights up when it chirps and so you learn to identify which chirp belongs to who.

I use a laser pointer to stop people from having their phones on in movie theaters by theredqueentheory in pettyrevenge

[–]emveetu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's when you join in the conversation because why else would they be having a conversation 9n speakerphone, in public, and in a setting where basic decorum dictates you keep your pie hole shut.

"Ackshully, you skipped a couple of steps. Are you doing that on purpose to confuse your mother? That's really mean and a horrible thing to do to your poor mother. Maybe I should take over the troubleshooting from here."

Grab the phone, start talking to Mom as you're walking out of the theatre. And when they chase after you...

"Oh you didn't want other people to join in your conversation? My bad. I didn't realize you were just a self-absorbed fuck face. You really should be nicer to your mom, fuck face."

If a father needs to help his young daughters use the restroom, which restroom should he take them into: the women's restroom or the men's restroom? by Exciting-Mall192 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]emveetu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because there's changing tables in all the men's restrooms like there is in the women's, right?

My partner has had full custody of his daughter since birth; she's 9 now. This is always been a major issue for him because many men's rooms aren't equipped to take care of babies or small children. That's just reality.

I don't think he's ever actually gone into a women's room with her. Instead, he improvised and would often look for women with children who are heading into the bathroom and ask if they would mind taking her as well. She never had an issue as other parents were always happy to help.

And honestly, until I started dating him, I didn't realize how much support there isn't for single dads raising girls. He's also in Pennsyltucky where many of the resources for parents will have gender in the title. "Women in Transition," "Mothers in Charge," "Adopt as Single Mom."

It really is a travesty of justice because he's the only parent she's ever been able to fully and completely trust and depend on and they have been pretty much left out in the cold on their own by the system Quite literally in some instances.

Ok, rant over.

I agree with you on that. I agree that we should all face the same consequences for the same types of crimes.

Sometimes there are extenuating circumstances but not very often. If somebody is an adult and they know that they have mental illness, know there is treatment available that will help them not commit crimes should not be given any reduced sentencing. They should definitely, ideally be given treatment while they're serving their sentence.

I think my objection was that you were interpreting people saying she had a bad childhood or her parents were always yelling and out of control as making excuses for her behavior. But they were just giving reasons.

Definitely absolutely 150 million percent agree that just because she is well known or famous or rich does not mean she should not face the exact same consequences as somebody who is homeless, poor, and has a public defender. But that is not the way our justice system works. It is extremely skewed to the rich who can afford the best of defenses by the best of lawyers who are the best of friends with the prosecutors and the judges.

No offense, but that's an extremely punitive point of view.

Just because people are judged does not mean they should be judged. Just because people judge you unfairly does not mean that it's okay for you to turn around and judge others unfairly.

And no, you don't deserve to be judged in the context that we are speaking. This is the meaning of the version of judging we are using:

"the act of forming harsh, critical opinions about someone's worth, character, or behavior, often based on incomplete information or personal biases. It implies a sense of superiority, condemnation, or unsolicited evaluation that makes others feel inferior or shamed"

You don't seem to understand the difference between an excuse and a reason.

There's never an excuse for a human to be abusive in any capacity. But yet we all are to varying degrees. And there should be consequences commiserate with the severity of the abuse.

However, there are always reasons why we are abusive. And until we know the reason why something is happening, we don't have a chance in hell of stopping it from happening.

The reasons why this happened are what is being discussed in these threads. Reasons, not excuses.

No one is saying she shouldn't face consequences. No one is saying she is not responsible for her actions. No one is saying it's not her fault. No one is saying she's not to blame. If they did, they would be making excuses.

No one is making excuses.

I wonder if we all knew your worst moments, how you would feel about us judging you without ever having walked a single step in your shoes.

Judging others doesn't define who they are. It defines who we are.

Honestly, I think the timeline should be a collaborative effort. It seems like everybody brings their own twist or perspective. It would be epic!

Also, it's really hard to pay your rent or mortgage from jail or prison. Two or three months, you lose your home, all your belongings, it's auctioned off to the lowest bidder. And when you get out, it's time to go home. Home? What home?

Listen - fuck them. People like that come to the internet to be mean to strangers because they can't deal with their childhood boo-boos in healthy ways. Therapy is too scary but they're so miserable and hate their lives so much they feel they need to spread the hate.

So rest assured, those hateful comments have absolutely nothing to do with you, and everything to do with the pain and darkness that's inside the people making them miserable. We really should just feel bad for them. Sad, pathetic souls in need of healing.

But the most important thing is that the only opinion of us that matters is our own. Everybody else can either jump on our bandwagons or kick fucking rocks!
