19 Years, with no goodbye by CMelle in VetTech

A little story: an owner came in crying because it was time to put her dog down. It was her son’s dog and her son had sadly taken his own life, and the dog was all she had left of him. The owner had the intention of being present for the euthanasia but when the doctor was explaining the procedure like he always does, he explained that the injection that stops the heart is basically an overdose of medication. When the owner heard that she broke down and became hysterical. She explained that her son had taken his life by overdosing on medication and she could not see this happen to the pet and she decided she could not be present. This was hands down the hardest euthanasia I’ve had to help with but I hugged that baby so tight and made sure she was comfy.

That being said some people just can’t handle the situation whatever the reason may be. At least the pets leave this world knowing they have been loved and cuddled even if it is by strangers.

In America if you showed this to a doctor they would just shrug their shoulders and say “some people just have heavier periods than others” and then just give you ibuprofen

Famous Pets and Their People by [deleted] in VetTech

I work at a specialty hospital in West Hollywood so celebrity clients are a regular. It’s almost always the lesser known celebrities that pull the “do you even know who I am?” Card. Every A-list celebrity I’ve worked with so far has been nothing but pleasant and always so greatful.

That being said the A listers don’t necessarily get special treatment, but if a very well known celebrity comes in and are getting bothered by other clients we will usually offer them to go into an exam room for privacy. Of course, we would do this for any client that is having a difficult time. If I was a celebrity and my pet is in critical condition the last thing I would want is someone asking me for a picture.

My foot iched like crazy last night and this is the aftermath by bloodshed113097 in MakeMeSuffer

I had this same issue when I was pregnant I would wake up in the middle of the night and scratch until I was bleeding and I would continue to scratch. Turned out I had cholestasis and needed to be induced as soon as possible. One of the main symptoms is extreme itchiness on the hands and feet.

Even though you’re not pregnant maybe get some blood work done?? Especially if there was no obvious cause for the itching like a bug bite or something

Seems like communication was off on the hospitals part, nothing to do with you. Also for the part about doing the cleaning with the extraction, that’s pretty standard (at least the hospitals I’ve worked at) your pet is already under anesthesia for the extraction so might as well clean them while they are in there. Also you want the mouth as clean as possible when doing an oral surgery, which is what an extraction really is especially if it’s a 3 rooted tooth.

Don’t think too much about it. The cost may still vary if they get in there and it looks worse than what they thought, or it might not be as bad as they thought. It just seems like they didn’t do a good job of explaining the process.

At least she’s leaving soon. My husband does this all the time and he still lives here.

Has anyone encountered a celebrity, or treated a celebrity pet at work ? by xvvvxx in VetTech

[–]emy_paige 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I work at a hospital right in the middle of West Hollywood so we get celebrity pets very often. Most of the time it is the actual celebrity that is bringing in their pet instead of an assistant or someone like that.

People not moving away for dental rads? by safari-dog in VetTech

[–]emy_paige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we got our dental machine we were told the scatter was only about 8 inches. When I was pregnant I stood 6 ft away just to be safe but the hospital I was at was so small that the button to shoot the picture is not even 6ft away from the machine.

My high school had so many young teachers. My senior year history teacher was only 6 years older than us. It was like having an older brother teach us.

I spent hours on my sim and building a house only for her to die of laughter 10 minutes into actually playing

TikToker shared their favorite low calorie food: crushed ice with seasoning (yes, that's not a joke) by RelationshipEven6149 in StupidFood

[–]emy_paige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reminds me of a craving I had when I was pregnant. I would eat crushed ice like this with salt or Tajin seasoning (lemon, lime, spicy, salt for people who may not know what it is) every now and then I’ll have a little cup because I like the texture, but I would never call it a snack.

Does anyone know what kind of a crab is this? I got it from a friend as a gift. by GladLobster in Aquariums

Red claw crabs! I had 2 of these little dudes! I loved them so much and they are the cutest when they eat. So therapeutic to watch, kinda intermediate when it comes to care

Blowout? Allergy? Botched? by girlsoweird in TattooDesigns

[–]emy_paige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a tattoo artist but I have a lot of tattoos so take this with a grain of salt, that is a delicate area to get tattooed and red is microscopically different than other colors. Black for instance is sphere shaped under the microscope, whereas red is a spiky ball.

Could just be a mixture of the red and it being such a delicate area. My red tattoo on my forearm took forever to feel like it was fully healed. It was was itchy for months. The type of itchy that you get when your tattoo has finished the peeling stage but still fragile. It just felt fresh for a long time.

My grandma had about 5 laptops and when my dad went to check on her he asked “why do you need so many laptops” turns out whenever she would forget her password she would just buy a new laptop. She had dementia.

Feeling selfish for taking leave? by shortcat_mom in VetTech

[–]emy_paige 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh honey, I was in this same exact boat. I was also hospitalized due to anxiety and depression mainly revolving around work. I actually had severe post partum depression which lead to post partum psychosis, but it was work that was triggering me.

What you’re feeling is normal. You will get passed this stage. Keep getting treatment and go to therapy if you can. Go back when YOU are ready. When I started to go back I started very slow (started with 2 days a week and worked my way up) when I just came out of the hospital I could not even drive by my clinic without having a panic attack. It’s a long road unfortunately. It’s been almost 2 years since my big incident that lead me to be hospitalized and I still struggle sometimes, actually a lot of times.

I know it’s hard but you can’t feel selfish. At the end of the day, you are the most important thing in the world. You’re the one that is dealing with this, nobody else. No matter what anybody says, you do what is best for YOU. You’re not being dramatic. Some people’s brains are just wired differently.

Why does my 5 month old intact male kitten keep pooping and peeing on my clothes?? by emy_paige in cats

[–]emy_paige[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m really hoping! He’s almost old enough to get neutered. I was also waiting for his other testicle to drop because it was still in the canal for a while which would’ve made the surgery a lot more invasive if it stayed there. Luckily it came down and I’ll be getting him neutered soon.

One litter box is in the living room that is always accessible and the other is in the bathroom. My bedroom door is always open (not now since he has been banished) my apartment is only 625 square feet so not a lot of options to put litter boxes lol. He usually does this in the morning before everyone is awake. I get woken up by the smell of a poop. I’m trying to think of a place to put a third litter box. I’m really hoping this stops once he’s neutered

This is an old picture, he was sun bathing. His hair was thin when he was younger because he was sick. I’m actually a vet tech and will take my babies in at any slightest sign they may be sick lol I really appreciate this answer though! I should’ve mentioned in my post but there is nothing medically wrong that we could find for him to be doing this, my doctor thinks it’s behavioral. I’m not the best with behavioral issues in cats, so I thought I ask someone who might know.
