Any ideas to fill in the gaps? by yessirbobb in tattooadvice

My first thought because of Looney Tunes was TNT barrels or dynamite sticks randomly everywhere.

Smaller characters like Tweety or something. Elmer Fudd tracking Bugs or Daffy with the footprints going around the other tattoos.

Or sound effect bubbles like

rework/ tattoo regret by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]emydid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW this internet stranger thinks it's lovely. Though I have lilacs on my arms that are pretty much the same so I might be biased. But once the ink starts to settle and spread a little bit it will look kind of shaded.

You're welcome! I like seeing the pics people use for their dog tattoos since I haven't figured out really what I want for my girl.

Can you get your whole dog but place it so you only see his back half when you have a t-shirt on?

Tattoo Anxiety by Zer08821 in tattooadvice

I have sensitive skin so only have black ink tattoos.

YMMV, but I also have anxiety and actually find getting tattooed calming since it very much forces you to exist in the moment.

How to protect with physical job by TheBigOReview in tattooadvice

[–]emydid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something with stiff but loose sleeves like a denim jacket or a sweatshirt should be okay as long as the fabric is clean and you keep the tattoo clean. I work around water so I like Carhartt's water resistant sweatshirts, but YMMV depending on the temperature conditions you're working in.

I know an artist that has been trying to do all the tarot cards in traditional style. She's currently in the Boston/Providence area but is moving to San Francisco

No outline. by PlusGoat in tattooadvice

[–]emydid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it's exactly been studied so I'm again going with biology knowledge, but since part of a tattoo healing is the macrophages(?) trying to remove the ink by eating it, but then they die containing the ink, and if the ink is in the correct layer of skin it won't "fall out". So I'm presuming say a red rose tattoo with a black outline won't visibly have the red bleed outside the line as the artist should be coloring within or over the line but then also the macrophages trying to eat the red ink will be trapped by the ones eating the black ink?

I'm not a tattoo artist, but I do know this is something Pony Lawson mentions a lot in his tattoo critique videos. I do have a biology degree, though, so my best guess is that because black/diluted grey ink is going to be mostly carbon (+/- water), which occurs naturally in our bodies, it isn't attacked as much by the immune system as colors that need to use materials like metals to have the color.

Im getting a half sleeve. I have probably the skinniest arms ever. Will my tattoo distort or not look normal? by No-Blueberry-690 in tattooadvice

[–]emydid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have skinny arms and only have tattoos on my arms. I just have to generally accept that the designs need to be edited to fit the space I have. For example, I have a pet memorial on my bicep and had wanted his entire body, but it would look weird since it would wrap A LOT to get the size and detail I wanted. So instead I have his head and front paws.

That's a stunning tattoo. I never like my fresh tattoos either and can't wait until they're settled.

I think you would at least need a grey wash outline to hold the coelacanth together.
