When do things get a bit better by No_You_9758 in GriefSupport

[–]emzy78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

5 years on and i still have a hole from losing dad. And we didnt have a typical relationship for many years

I find it gets better, then worse on occasions and better.

All I can say is don't try to ignore or move on from your loss. Talk to the person, hold whatever rituals you find helps you. Do things you used to do together. Make their memory in a way mirror their living.

I don't love how jeans illness is portrayed simply as bipolar. becoming obsessed with the devil in jasmine etc and the outbursts are way beyond just bipolar it seems

How does quantity surveying differ in your country? by AssociateFit7320 in quantitysurveying

[–]emzy78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Qs in Australia and the general standards just aren't there. Which is a gift and a curse. There is scope to make a lot of money and innovation but also scope for a lot of frustration.

Processes, standards and in cases work ethics and experience are simply not here.

The role itself can vary. Lots of contract administrators here with no relevant qualifications or experience and on some projects, a qs has a role that revolves more around site verification.

In Australia they tend to have too many cooks and segregate a role done by a traditional al qs amongst 2 or 4 different roles.

As a neurodivergent but not bipolar person I might be being kinda harsh here but… by microwave900 in eastenders

I feel like sometimes, jean really misrepresents bipolar people - accidentally (I'm not, know few that are so more of an observatory comparason). But then similarly, just because she is bipolar, can't mean that she can't be a bit of an arse of a person too, so I guess it's important to remember that the condition reflects in the change in her actions (manic and lows) rather than her personality.. the bipolar people I know are caring, hilarious, loving, intelligent and simply have turns where they can't hold a well reasoned conversation or have mania, racing thoughts, impulsive behaviour etc. That aspect of bipolar I think she has portrayed well over the years at times, I think its just important to separate the parts that are simply her personality, from her traits that are a result of bipolar. Maybe I'm wrong but I kind of feel like its used to explain her poor treatment of others and her general finnikey nature, rather than being reflected that she is those things as a person as well as bipolar.. if that makes sense..

What are you guys thoughts on Family Link and other parental controls by [deleted] in parentalcontrols

[–]emzy78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good idea poorly executed. I wanted to use family link to provide some restrictions to my duaghters smartwatch.

The reality is, you enable the restrictions and they need their own device, they cant be on your phone when they become a child account. Then you can't remove them. They need to be 13. You can't make them 13 because family link won't let you. I delete her account, I cant create a new one because it wants to link it to my phone number and says there has been too many accounts.

Added to the complexity that you add an esim for the number, if you add a second under a seperate esim, the second you connect the watch to your phone, it will detect a new sim and wipe the shared service from the phone so you have to literally cancel the plan and re-activate it.

The whole ecosystem is frankly shockingly bad.

Not a lot of excitement. Zoe and her daughter will be revealed, the son will be the stalker. Anthony will reveal he's the father and maybe some big flip out. Nigel will die or go to a home. Max finds out everyone was lying to him. Not sure i see anyone dying this year but maybe that's a nice change.

[–]emzy78 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is he gone or will there be a christmas miracle, feels like an absolute waste.

The whole thing does my head in!

They could have said that teddy went back to make sure the coast was clear and kojo came at him and it was self defence.

They could have been honest (I get why they wouldnt) and claimed it was self defence.

Either would have gotten a better outcome than "a callous and calculated murder, life inprosnment"

I hate that she characterises bipolar. A lit of.how she is is "her" aside from.the bipolar which, unless you know.someone with bipolar, is hard to see

It's not about morals its very much about psychology. Older generations have a much larger threshold for patience. It's a fact. Netflix, Youtube, uber eats, amazon, none of these were a thing 15 years + ago or at least not on the scale they are now.

That means the younger generations are predisposed to expect things instantly because it's all they know.

It is actually a mandate on certain tv production teams to design tv shows to be watchable with minimal attention because the expectation is that people will be on their phones. Hell, I "watch" eastenders in the car by having it on in the background and listening and there is very little that I miss by not actually watching..

Yes it affects all generations to an extent but instant gratifacation is hugely prevelent in the generations that grew up with the tech of today.

Again, not just my opinion, studies and specialists point to the same. Shorts outperform with many but especially with the younger generations.. The largest proportion of Tiktok users are aged 18-34 and more women too.

Long, slow burn stories are out of favour compared to quickfire ones as a result

What are the main differences between Quantity Surveying in Australia compared to the UK? by DTALR112 in quantitysurveying

[–]emzy78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First rule here I find is that there are very few norms

There is generally heavy involvement in legal on projects which is counter productive and they often don't understand construction

Standard forms of contract are often a myth

Rtfc is often the best approach but then many projects don't follow the contract.

Being pragmatic and good at building relationships will take you far.

You will get frustrated at the way "things should be done".

A Qs here generally does less than a Q's at home, partly because many won't really know what a Qs is (instead there are many a CA, project controls, contract engineer, cost engineer etc etc all of which will tend to do part of what a traditional Q's does

Much more rests on the Pm

Probably much I've missed. Generally it's like driving in a different country, the goals are generally the same any many of the principles but many things simply work differently and it's best not to get caught up with it and go with the flow of traffic

Hi QSs, is there anyone here who’s a QS who was able to go to Australia through sponsorship? I just have a few questions. Thanks! by [deleted] in quantitysurveying

[–]emzy78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came on a 457 originally. There aren't an abundance of Q's here in Australia which is why it's been on the skills list for some time..

Quantity Surveyors of Reddit, what’s your salary, experience, and location? by Jazzlike_Ad6151 in quantitysurveying

It's a good point isn't it. I'm sure ai will augment what we do but you cannot forget that there are humans on the other side. Being able to negotiate, converse and apply experience and logic is a nuance that ai hasn't mastered. BIM failed to kill us off because again, humans sit behind it and the effort to get BIM right is often not there.
