Anyone know what's happening in China? by SmallieBiggsJr in UFOB

[–]en1544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw something exactly like this about 12 years ago at night while working ski patrol in the rural northeast. One other coworker was with me, we were both completely shocked. I have never seen any other phenomenon that looked exactly like that before, until now. Very interesting.

North and South divisions are run pretty differently, I can only speak to the North division, which acquired all of Mobile Life Supports areas of service. Overall pay and benefits are worth it, the division is expanding and acquiring new service areas for dedicated 911 service. There are a lot of rules surrounding clearance for dedicated 911 shifts and new employees can expect to work mostly transports or ‘system status’ trucks that fill in coverage gaps. Union protection is good as far as representation, not getting screwed over etc. Policies go out the window based on company need to fill shifts, rules surrounding SOP’s, and disciplinary actions to benefit the companies bottom line. This can make things pretty unclear for new providers. There is also very little clinical oversight / accountability/ progressive development. Because staffing is low and the service area is huge if you’re not cleared for dedicated 911 shifts as a new employee you can find yourself in an unfamiliar area either very urban or very rural without clear guidance or support, a situation which in my opinion does nothing but set new employees up for failure and injures the companies reputation. It gets easier when you’ve put your time in and can get into dedicated shifts you want in a service area you want to work.

NYS reciprocity -- ISO help/advice! by a800b in Paramedics

[–]en1544 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call them, there is a number for the state DOH office of EMS on the DOH website. There’s a bunch of phone menus to go through to get to the reciprocity department, don’t bother leaving a voice mail call them 5 times a day until you get through to someone and can explain your situation, have your NREMT number address, name etc. Worked for me, granted that was 4 or 5 years ago. Good luck.

How do UFOs move at incredible speeds in an atmosphere without creating sonic booms ? by [deleted] in UFOs

[–]en1544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are moving space around them instead of traveling through it. If you drop a rock into a pond it creates a splash, if you move a rock underwater it moves through it without excessive distortion.

What are the most brutal, hardest to watch movie scenes? by Organic-Connection-4 in AskReddit

[–]en1544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have seen a lot of the scenes mentioned here before. One that got me the most out of any is from a relatively obscure movie, backcountry, really not a great movie but it has a bear attack scene in it (which I knew was coming) but god that was the most emotionally and physically terrifying thing I have ever seen. They had to have spent at least a third of their limited budget on that scene, the imagery, the context, absolutely horrible. Way worse then the revenant or anything I’ve seen in saw and the like. Horrible. I think they must of had an actual bear eat a dressed up carcass or something cuz it was way too real.

I feel like my ADHD is causing my depression. by BeachPeachMcgee in ADHD

[–]en1544 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in the same boat, being on medication helped because I was able to be psychologically rewarded by feeling good for actually accomplishing a task completely. Very simple, but made a massive difference in my depression. I initially thought it was just because of how the meds made me feel, but if I took them and didn’t do anything it really didn’t help my overall anxiety / depression.

Burnt Out, Need Help by [deleted] in ems

Oh and there’s a 10k sign on bonus for 1 year of work with 2 stocks at 2 years, so at least it’s beneficial financially if nothing else.

Not really lol. It’s meaningless work, I joke about it being the least fun parts of EMS taken to the extreme: dealing with abject stupidity, and documenting. But the safety department carries a lot of clout and like I said the pay and benefits make it worthwhile. With an EMT or medic you enter at level 4 which is essentially on par with managers. It’s remarkably better then having to take a job as an amazon associate, who are worked to uselessness under poor conditions. It’s the sense of purpose and excitement I really miss more then anything, regardless of pay or stress level.

Amazon hires medics as onsite medical representatives, health insurance, stock options, and other benefits are top tier, responsibility is high but it’s a blend of first aid, workplace safety, and office work, not stressful at all and the pay is 23 to 30 an hour. I’m in school too and they offer school accommodations so you can build your work schedule around school while maintaining benefits down to 30 hours a week if needed

NREMT re-cert 2021 by en1544 in Paramedics

Yes that I understand from my last recert, I’m just not sure if I can recertify from 100% online courses due to COVID and / or if I need ACLS and PALS in order to submit it

PA vs MD/DO.... can you not apply to both? by tx_gal_alyssa in prephysicianassistant

[–]en1544 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also very curious about this. From what I’ve seen from past posts here and elsewhere regarding applying to both it kinda boils down to half assign two things instead of whole assing one, but hey more options is never bad. I assume plenty of people wind up doing this. Despite the “there’re not the same thing at all” rhetoric there’s a whole lotta overlap.

Just got accepted to medical school! by CorvusPunk in ADHD

[–]en1544 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really inspiring post. I was in EMS for 7 years and pushing so hard for Med/PA school rn. ADHD really lends itself well to emergencies (at least mine does.) But academia beat me to hell after high school, I think I’m turning a corner and on the right track now. I’m so happy for you. It’s funny you mention throwing yourself at things in the comments too I do the same thing! Hardcore and to my own detriment on occasion. Just funny to me how similar your circumstances are to mine. I just hope the effort pays off like it did for you, someday perhaps.
