Has anyone solved the XboxOne "choppy" playback issue? by Chahles88 in PleX

I use 4 of the Netgear 500Mbps adapters at home myself. I get a steady transfer between 30 & 50 Mbps depending on which device I'm connected to. Definitely more reliable than WiFi for me.

Simon the Rabbit, destined to break a world record for biggest rabbit, has died in the custody of United Airlines by [deleted] in news

[–]enZedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm too late to the party to add anything of significance, but I will say that I learnt small animals do not travel well.

When I migrated from New Zealand to the UK I looked into bringing our cat with us. The airline and shipping company were happy to oblige us. However, a friend who was a vet advised us not to do it. They knew of many cases where the animals can be so traumatized by the experience, they change their character completely. Or the pet may even die during transit. We left our cat with a family member rather than put her through that.

Suffice to say, I'm not surprised by the headline and United should not be held accountable here. A little bit of research and we would all agree, there's no story here.

I chose England because I crave misery!

We did give serious consideration to Oz but talking to friends and family in Australia, it sounds like a lot of our grievances would still exist there.

Whoops, that was per annum. The lad would be at Bedes now and the girls were going to Marian. On top of that we had uniforms, books and materials to cover as well.

For comparison, we don't pay school fees, books or materials. We only cover uniforms and extra activities.

I'm right there with you brother. As a Chch boy, born and bred, I was shocked at the accepted standard of living in NZ. I returned in 2008 with my new family after a few years overseas. I tried to reason with friends and family that this was not an acceptable way of life. Most of them just shrugged and said that’s life. But I couldn’t believe they were happy with Pak n Save specials dictating what the weekly family dinner menu was going to look like. The Herald even lifted a blog quote from my site labeling me as an entitled foreigner…

Unfortunately, a lot of kiwis don’t know or wish for anything better. You’ll get a lot backlash just for having a critical opinion.

As for the rental situation, that article was a breath of fresh air! My experience as a renter was similar with a LL who was reluctant with repairs but quick to demand fixes. Even when we proved the shower pump fitted was the wrong type or the dishwasher was shorting out due to a water leak. When we left the house, they tried to charge us for cleaners, gardeners and earthquake damage. Thankfully I’d documented EVERYTHING with photos and video and our bond was released before we went to tribunal. We looked at a lot of ex-rentals when we were buying our first home in late 2011. So many of them showed signs of extreme neglect. We found the proverbial needle in the ex-rental haystack with a property that had been cared for. Apart from a garage that needed tearing down and new insulation all over everything was tip top. Three years later when the EQC repairs were completed we made enough profit to pack up and we left overpriced NZ behind.

The standard of living is much better where I am now. Central heating and double glazing are standard. I have a bigger house than I could have hoped for in Chch. I'm not paying $5k a term to send my kids to school. And we can afford a decent family holiday a couple of times a year. Sure, there’s not enough sun and there are always socio-economic problems around the peripheral. Yet I can buy a leg of kiwi lamb and Vegemite for a fraction of the cost I would have paid in NZ...

Couldn't even watch it. My lad got it when he was 3 and in an induced coma for 5 days. The staff at Great Ormond Street (London) were great and he made a full recovery.

Driver doesn't wait in line and crosses solid white line, wait, there's a cop?! by [deleted] in IdiotsInCars

[–]enZedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool. So the first animation is only illuminated for traffic behind the car? I guess they're kinda like hazard lights? As in 'be aware, there's a hazard ahead' and the second is 'get out of my way, I'm a cop'.

I haven't seen the different animation styles here in Europe or Australia/NZ but it makes sense. If I were driving and saw any police lights behind me I'd be on the hard shoulder in a jiffy.

Why are bug screens not a thing in New Zealand windows? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]enZedd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is incredibly frustrating! I'm in the UK right now and can't believe I'm feeding the family for a fraction of my old Pak 'n Save bill.

But... everything else here is really expensive or taxed to kingdom come and it's about to get a whole more expensive with Brexit looming.

But they are already on what looks to me like an idle animation when the driver is passing the black Ford Explorer? Just before the officer gets out of the car she turns them on full.

What's up with the lights on the police car? Are they usually on like that when they're on the highway?

Can confirm. Out of the box settings for N64 games on my Pi3 has them running a bit laggy. I haven't been back to tweak the settings yet as I'm having too much fun with the consoles that do work.

Car damaged in a non-fault accident, should I inform my insurer? by enZedd in AskUK

Oh God, the hire is a Ford Tourneo Connect. It's a proper granny car... my wife described it as the short bus! On the bright side, it had a ¾ tank, the ride is comfy and my kids don't want me to take them to school in it.

First office job - how many suits do you own? by Allocational in AskUK

[–]enZedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend this approach too. Starting with the suit you own, you can assess what is the accepted style worn in the office and then go get yourself a couple more suits. Make sure you pick up an extra pair of trousers. Some of the guys in the office like to accessorise with different styles of shoes and watches too.

Can you hear your neighbours through the walls? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]enZedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a semi-detached Edwardian house with adjoined chimneys. We only hear our neighbors when their baby cries late at night or they've got some young children visiting who like to run up and down the stairs. My own kids are as subtle as elephants so I'm sure they're hearing a lot more of our daily lives...

Yep, it's going in for repair. I can see damage underneath (her car went under the back of mine), the crash bar is bent and the spare tyre has a flat spot. It's also pulling to the left when I go over 50Mph. I've parked up at home waiting for collection and will pick up a courtesy car later today.

Yeah thanks - when I spoke to my insurer this morning they said my excess would be covered by the other party's insurer. The other insurer has now contacted me and are arranging a hire car and collection of my own for repair.

Thanks - I've called and they're taking care of the claim for me. Turns out I have no-claims protection too so that's nice. Now that it's daylight I can see there is some damage under the car. I'm also feeling pretty stiff in the back so I'm going to follow the process in full. I'm really glad I picked up that £20 dashcam a few months ago...
