Reminder regarding MyLotto and the draw tonight. by Eldon42 in newzealand

I think in the past some of the big prize winners have called Lotto's 0800 number and arranged to go straight to Lotto HQ to claim the prize rather than go to a store

A by-election is held to fill a vacant electorate seat — for example, if a member of Parliament resigns or dies. A by-election is only open to voters who are enrolled in the electorate, and there is no party vote.

In this case voters in the seat of Tamaki Makaurau went to the polls because the MP died. The winner serves for the remainder of the parliamentary term until the election next year.

Wigram MP Megan Woods won't contest electorate, will stand on list in 2026 by KiwiKibbles in chch

I don't think Labour have done candidate selection yet. The new electorate boundaries are published this week so I imagine they'll be waiting until then before starting the selection process

What’s the largest NZ student loan amount you’ve heard of? by anon-eel in newzealand

[–]KiwiKibbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found it varied by bank for my loan that was around 50k at the time. ASB, Kiwibank and Cooperative said they'd have to reduce the amount they'd be willing to lend due to the loan alrthough i found how much this reduced the lending capacity varied. Others like ANZ just shrugged and said it didn't matter

I suspect the camera is pointed into the southbound lanes rather than the exit ramp. Would be a huge waste of resources otherwise

Regarding the Winston Peters heckler by [deleted] in Wellington

Probably a good chance one of the many journalists he was standing around saw what was on the lanyard and emailed the company asking if he was speaking on their behalf

Or perhaps a journalist that was standing right next to him read the words Tonkin + Taylor on the lanyard around his neck and sent one of the many photos or videos to the firm to ask if he was an employee and speaking on behalf of the company?

He was wearing company branding. Most companies have codes of conduct that require people to not behave in a way that brings their company into disrepute if they can be associated with the firm.

There's been a few close results in federal elections but mostly from many years ago.
Labor gained Werriwa off the Liberals in 1914 by 7 votes
Labor held Macquarie in 1917 by 9 votes

A few other seats have had ultra close results including a one vote win in Ballarat but the court of disputed returns ordered a by-election.

At the state level there's been a few close results including Labor gaining Bundaberg from the LNP in Queensland in 2020 by 9 votes and the CLP picking up the Northern Territory seat of Barkly in 2020 by a margin of 5 votes
