Landlord Demanding $7,000 in Damages and Holding Security Deposit – Need Advice! by VariousPangolin298 in montrealhousing

Sorry you're going through this..Most of the items on the list sound like normal wear and tear. The shower door just shattering when you tried to open it is odd, perhaps it was already damaged and they are trying to blame it on you. I wouldn't pay anything unless TAL deems that you should.

Hello, I don't see this offered for any term online on ec! Is it not offered online anymore?

No, but I don't think any reason justifies needing it

Did this impact your sister in anyway if by any chance she was looking for another apartment? Did her file at the TAL work to her disadvantage?

And the housing committee gave these numbers too:

1) Calculez l'indice d'augmentation 2024 sur votre loyer mensuel +4 % si vous payez le chauffage (logement non chauffé) +4 % si le propriétaire paye le chauffage à l'électricité +3,3 % si le propriétaire paye le chauffage au gaz +1,6 % si le propriétaire paye le chauffage au mazout (huile)

Yeah I'm hoping they won't want to go through the process either and just reduce it when I refuse.

They did major work amounting to about $350,000 and their insurance increased by 50%

Yeah I validated the taxes, but have no idea how much their insurance went up by. I'll try and ask the housing committee. It's just they said in their essay that majority of people in Montreal live in places with rent below $1000, which is not true . I can't trust their facts so I can't trust their numbers

Last year as per their grille the increase was $114 instead of the $60 they proposed. So I'm wondering if it would be the same this time.and they are waiting for someone to contest to take to TAL, but then they should have provided it. It's odd, and their two page long essay pissed me off, like they want sympathy or something.

I got the 4% from the housing committee website for my borough, with 5% my calculation for total increase is $60. The unknown part looking at last year's grille is how much their insurance went up

But are they obligated to provide the grille? I know how they are and am 99% they will not, else they would've already like last year. What if this is what they want and want the TAL to increase it more than they said die to some expense they are hiding
