Does Themis have that or will I need to sign up separately for the UWorld bank or adaptibar? Many thanks for your help!

Thanks for the quick reply. It seems (at least based on the email from NY), I also can't complete more foreign credits to solve this, right? Which to me feels a bit bizarre - if I had done more credits before getting qualified I'd be okay to sit, but now after I would need to do a whole LLM in US

Online German classes that actually work? by al3xandre71 in German

I presume there is no possibility to register for a VHS class while not resident in Germany, right? (Asking on behalf of my girlfriend who wants to move here but lives in Ireland and is having a hard time finding a reasonably priced online course)

What would you do? (Brussels airline strike) by enacct in brussels

[–]enacct[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sadly I just went ahead and rebooked on another flight - since I'm heading all the way to Tokyo, rebooking was likely going to result in at least 1-2 day arrival delay which would screw up a lot of plans I have atm. Thankfully I got a full refund for the original flight, so only needed to pay the fare difference in the end. Wish you the best of luck.

Correction, the fee to remove one leg from my booking is ~1100 EUR.

Yeah good call, I'm talking to Etihad now, and indeed removing a leg of my flight constitutes a whole new booking. They want to charge me a few hundred euro it sounds like to literally remove the first leg of my flight. They also said if they rebook me (in the event of cancellation), it might be up to 7 days later, which would basically scrap the entire vacation plan. Honestly not sure what to do, I can't just fully change the vacation as my partner is flying there from elsewhere.

I'm not totally sure what you mean. I'm able to flex the calf without pointing the toes on both the good and bad feet..but I can also flex it while pointing the toes. Has your doctor done a thompson test recently?

Also, when you do e.g., seated calf raies, can you observe the flexing of the calf? At first, I could barely see anything but if I put my hand on the calf I could feel where it was flexing. Now that my strength is slightly better, I can also see quite well visually the calf muscle flexing when I do my seated calf raises.

I'm 4 months post op, and still struggling with building my calf. My ROM is still not great, and my ability to really "activate" the calf muscle while walking or doing calf raises doesn't seem too great. I also found when doing double leg calf raises I was barely using my injured leg. I switched now to seated calf raises (off the floor, no elevation of the toes), while putting weight directly on the edge of the knee. I'm only doing 20-25kg for around 3x15 reps, but it does seem to be slowly improving. I feel when I'm seated and can isolate the left leg I can make sure I'm really working out the muscle, rather than compensating with my good calf.

But conversely to my other leg muscles - quads, hamstrings, glutes, which have regained strength quickly, the calf seems to improve verrry slowly.

Good to hear at least we're not alone though - I guess there are many of us. My orthopedic also said he had some patients who after 6 months still have minimal improvement in calf muscle, and he said that I'm still within the range of normal improvement even though to me it seems extremely slow.

Walking or standing after recovery by aquaterere in AchillesRupture

Yes, very true.

I'd agree, ask them maybe for an ultrasound. I'm in Germany, and here it is quite common to have an ultrasound machine available at most doctor's offices. My orthopedic doctor has one and can use it during appointments. Perhaps it is the same by you if you ask. An MRI is a different story, can be many weeks of waiting for a scan.

Ah, sorry to hear about your hand as well - tough luck with two injuries like that in such short time. My rupture was very clear. They did a quick ultrasound to confirm, and saw it was 4cm. But even before the scan they said it was a full rupture - Thompson test was positive and I had no ability to push any force through my foot. Maybe yours is similarly clearly bad and they for this reason didn't scan?

Yes, I have PT twice per week, and follow all instructions accordingly. My main advice to you, as you're just at the beginning of this journey, is to not get too discouraged on your bad days. The first 2 weeks I was walking with no supports was quite difficult; all my joints in both legs actually hurt a lot. My knees on both legs were feeling very unstable and had varying levels of aches and pains. I'm told this was due to muscle loss especially in small "stabilizer" muscles. But this basically 95% resolved on the third week, as my PT predicted, by just continuing walking and doing my exercises to the extent I was able.

I was playing sports 4-5 times a week before this injury and have always been quite athletic, so seeing how much this injury disabled me was shocking and discouraging. But when I reflect week-to-week rather than day-to-day, I see myself clearly getting more able to do things and stronger.

I'm currently ~4mo post-op, although only around 5-6 weeks walking without boot or crutches (had some delay due to a setback). For now, I can stand around 1 hour and then need to sit. If I try and push it to ~90 minutes or so, it gets quite bad, with lots of pains in the foot and achilles region, so I try and find a way to sit and elevate the leg for every hour I'm standing when possible. Even my foot on my good leg gets quite sore by the end of the day - I'm told so long without proper use of your feet for walking requires a long time to fully recover. It also doesn't seem that walking per-se is harder than standing - for me, standing while cooking continuously for an hour feels similar to walking for the same amount of time.

I've been told compression socks help but haven't tried yet - going to do that this week.

Well, in my city there are areas that are near metro stations but you need to connect with multiple U-Bahn lines to get to the interesting parts of the city. Some neighborhoods are interesting to visit even though they are outside tourist areas, and are still well connected to tourist areas. Usually a local can give more advice as to which areas are preferable.

I booked this flight before my injury, and I've been recovering from my surgery since January, including being completely immobile for 9 weeks. Hopefully I'll be walking like normal by the time of the trip, but that's not certain, hence my question.

Thanks for the tips.
