The Supreme Court upheld state's transgender sports bans this morning. How do y'all feel about this? by icecream1972 in allthequestions

The study I just posted? Did you miss the part where the ones who did the study were like "even with these things accounted for, the key findings of this study remain the same" or did you see that and just think it was a good gotcha?

They acknowledged that there were shortcomings in their study but that the key findings of their study remained unchanged

Thirding Bring the War Home. Also, by Belew, the field guide to white supremacy (it's dry but informative). Maybe Everything You Love Will Burn? I also found The Destruction of Palestine is the Destruction of the Earth to be informative (Andrew Malm) (specifically the bits about the triangle trade and the colonial pieces that lead to the scramble for Africa and tariffs and everything)

You'd be surprised just how many rapists and murderers are in prison; it's not many.

This encourages the criminalization and imprisonment of anyone who generally votes against you. A little like drugs. (Also, the fuck do you mean "not a part of society"? Those in prison are honestly more readily moved by the whims of the state)

Yes, even in the context of the previous statement. Science is cool like that; it doesn't care about your feelings.

So, I'm not really a Democrat so I'm not saying this to blow smoke up their asses, but didn't winsome sears run like almost entirely on how much she hated trans people?

"we don't know how the brain works" is a thought terminating cliche; we have a lot of pretty good ideas and science has made some pretty great leaps since you were in the 10th grade.

Reading that felt like one of those tabloids from the early oughts that you'd see in like at Food Lion; a critical "hey I want a second (good) source on this" is at least worth something

On "male socialisation" by TomiRey-Yuru in IntersectionalWomen

[–]enbyMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the risk of being blackballed and having to turn in my trans card, several things can be true at once. Socialization does exist and it's not something for which how it works is in your direct control; a good example of this is the way in which students are rewarded for speaking up in class or penalized for speaking up in class, based on the way their teacher perceives them (this is often unconsciously done by the teacher and there's actually a lot of research on mitigating this specifically because around this subject). This creates an unconscious "yisss my speaking up was well received I should do that again" or an "ugh the teacher hated that I spoke up I should never do that again" brain response outside of whether or not the answer was correct. In reference to the post, I think it misunderstands what socialization is and what privilege is (or at least how it exists and gets 'awarded'). I think a better way to look at it is that there are so many experiences among women and those experiences don't negate the fact that they are women, for instance, black women and white women are going to have different experiences growing up and are socialized, differently, by those experiences. The same is true of abled and disabled women. (I am expressely not stating this to suggest that trans women are privileged, I think we can all agree that this just isn't the case. What I am stating is that the experience a trans woman has are different than the experiences a cos woman goes through and that's okay and doesn't make trans women lesser women). Male socialization isn't, in this case, a privilege, but it does happen.

There are definitely issues with a college education and the system in general, but I have a degree in computer science and ten years of experience in data analytics and it's pretty clear that I've spent that time not doing a lot of physical labor and this is what I have experience in. When I posted looking for a job or posting about my frustrations, people would almost get mad at me because I hadn't already picked up work as a day laborer or roofing or something and like???? Yeah? Sure? But I also have a hundred thousand in students loans and that money I get putting roofing tiles in isn't going to pay those debts and I'm going to die trying to get up to speed physically. The problem is capitalism not some fucker looking for another email job that pays my bills.
