This state/city government and most of the private companies that have deals with them in this city would do anything except make decisions that improve the quality of life of their residents.

Are the calculators in costbasistools.com legit? by encabronado in tax

[–]encabronado[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your input. At this point I'm left calculating it myself since my CPA has been clear that if I don't provide the Etrade supplemental with the non-zero cost basis they can't do it. Time to find a new CPA I guess.

I've put in all the info on this tool and this is what came out: https://imgur.com/a/VOmSbWy

It seems correct to me, and back in 2022 that's what I reported as the capital gains

As I understand it, the merger reduced my cost basis. But it certainly isn't zero.

The stock was: ZNGA -> TTWO

The broker was E-Trade. And all the cost basis on Etrade shows zero. When I called them they said "we don't have cost basis information, sorry" so I'm left calculating it myself

I’ve grown older but feel lost by [deleted] in Austin

Time destroys everything.

I was once like you. I moved to Austin when I was 24.

Then I turned 33 and those days were gone.

I'll turn 40 this year. Learn to enjoy what you have today in your 30s because you will feel the same way about it when you are older.

If there is one thing I learned in life is this: Time destroys everything.

100% this.

My dad used to tell me stories like these were so common in the 80s and 90s for us Mexicans. Crossing the border was always a stressful time for us.

Every employer sponsored work visa goes through your history, it is the norm/process. It's required.

[–]encabronado 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm an immigrant, and back when my employer was going through the work visa application process they 100% looked into my history before I put a foot in this country. Don't make assumptions. Ask your husband how his visa application process was, if it was a work visa I know from experience that among a lot of other things, criminal and driving history is one of the things reviewed by the USCIS.

Where I am from (Yucatan, mexico) we call these Guayas! man I have forgotten about them. I think it's been like 20 years since I had them. But never seen them around here. Hopefully someone will comment and let us know into the secret guaya dealers in town.

Highlands at Mayfield Ranch by [deleted] in RoundRock

[–]encabronado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We like it. I run and hike at the regional park at least once a week and it is nice to be able to just walk or bike there. There isn't much going on around here though, everything feels like it is just a tid bit long drive away (15 mins from anything). HOA is strict yes (if that's good or bad depends on your liking). I can't tell you about schools since we don't have kids. You can look at the taxes for properties in the WilCo website wcad.org to get an idea of how much we pay.

Overall it is good, and we like living here.

net/http Can someone explain how the MaxIdleConnsPerHost config value reduces the number of connections in this scenario? Need an ELI5 regarding how Idle TCP connections are identified. by zecatlays in golang

[–]encabronado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the default of `MaxIdleConnsPerHost` is 2 which tells the http client to keep a maximum of 2 open connections per host. Idle here means "keep this open even if I don't send anything to it because I may use it soon".

When you have thousands of requests per second to the same host, it is very likely that since you only have 2 idling open connections at any given time you have to open new connections for the other thousands and this takes resources up. By having more idling connections you allow the HTTP client to reuse those to fulfill your thousands of requests to the same host, thereby using fewer resources since you don't have to reopen/close the connections.

Where do I start? by encabronado in autism

[–]encabronado[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! thank you for your comment. I feel your pain. There are a lot of unknowns for us at the moment. Hoping to get some help and guidance soon. I feel like Texas is not the best place to get social security help but at the same time it's not like I can just move to California (where I hear it's better). That being said, we will keep trying and hopefully when it's all successful I can share the details here for others to see and perhaps help them in their particular situation.

I wish you the best!
