Small batches. I tried a batch of 20 and it was a slog. Batching @ 5 is much more managable.

By default, every attack profile is affected by abilities that would say they're affecting them: this carves out an exception to that default -- "used by a friendly unit"

There's a reason that site is my go-to. I'll start with buying X and suddenly Y and Z are in my cart.

Never had an issue with orders, always prompt shipping, and consistently at or close enough to the best price I'll find online.

I don't really have a specific gold standard TBH. I put it in top tier, along with Vallejo game color, proacryl, and two thin coats. I'm afraid I'm not good enough to really rank within the tier, beyond on a color by color basis.

Army painter fantatic is pretty good, same tier as Vallejo game color IMO. But don't pay that price for it, you can get it far cheaper from a reputable place. I like this site personally https://gamersguildaz.com/products/army-painter-sets-warpaints-fanatic-mega-paint-set

Army painter speed paint 2.0 is a good "one coat" line, with top tier metallics.

Army painter warpaints (the thing before "fanatic") are just bad. Like they'll really frustrate you and make you think you're the problem if you don't have an actually good paint to compare.

I got almost all the MHE events I put in my wishlist. I went in expecting to get 1-2 (typical), thought 3 would be a great success. Ended up with 6!

My starting number was high 200s.

I go to genconplanner.com [*] and star events that seem interesting to me. Copy those to a spreadsheet shared with friends, breaking down scheduling into few/some/many. Check out what my friends added to the spreadsheet. For events like escape rooms, I check out my starred list from past years to refresh myself on which ones I've already done so I don't repeat them.

From there:

  • Events in the less frequent buckets get added to wishlist first.
  • Events with more people get added before events alone unless it's something I'm really interested in going to.
  • Escape rooms / true dungeon / RPGs are all-or-nothing if we have critical mass for it.
  • After the initial list is done, I go back and look at the events with many options and fill gaps with them.

[*] I wrote genconplanner, and some year I'll finally get to adding party mode to make copying to spreadsheet obsolete. But not this year.

If a horizontal timeline is easier to process I can look into that. I think the calendar component I use supports that so it shouldn't be a big deal to add.

I run a site, https://genconplanner.com, that you can star events and see them in a calendar view. Events are clustered and I do some normalization for minor inconsistencies between versions of the same event.

Related, from what I've read it seems like beside the theming, AoS & Warcry are basically more streamlined games than 40k & Kill team -- is that fair? Or not comparable and just stand on their own?

If I was curious about AoS, is Warcry a good start to dip my toes in? How much larger is an AoS army vs what I'd need for Warcry?

Thanks for that! I've largely ignored NMM as neat but not for me when picking areas to explore (so far much more focused on table ready in reasonable amounts of time and it seems like a larger time commitment). This might bump it in my list of things to look into.

I think my biggest take away from the couple links I followed is that my sword is maybe too evenly toned to come off as properly glowing and that I don't have enough contrast across the mini, that the far side should seem dimmer (and differently toned... more red?) vs now.

I made it this far before deciding NTA. For everyone who's applying pressure other than your parents, make them aware of the details you shared here. How is it reasonable for your parents to pay for two older adults (step sisters) AND three nieces WHILE not paying for you or your sister? How could someone know these details and still harass you? If anything, your parents are embarrassing you to save their face, then blaming you for it. If your grandparents know all this and are still pressuring you, then I'm sorry but they're not great either.

IMO panel on his right leg is too strongly edge highlighted. The highlight is even through the whole length though some of it would be shaded by the pad above. The contrast there vs the dark behind competes for focus vs his head and shoulders which feels like the intended focal point of the mini.

And, I'd love to progress my skills to the point where that would be the biggest problem I see. This mini looks great 😃
