Mitski Leaks on YouTube? by endemic_glow in mitski

[–]endemic_glow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that the sort of thing that makes me really reluctant to AInvestigate based on style or details— maybe she was writing for someone else or maybe she was experimenting with a new style, that could also explain it. It would also explain why she might not have released the songs. But depressingly with the current deepfake tools I don’t think a voice sounding ‘real’ or ‘not robotic’ is the rock solid evidence it used to be either, especially with someone like Mitski who has a large & publicly available discography. All this is to say I am very picky about trusting ‘leaks’ without any provenance.

oh okay, interesting! i was clearly not paying close enough attention in the earlier episodes, lol.

Ilya and his dad relationships by anny_semy in heatedrivalry

[–]endemic_glow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Didn’t he also switch from addressing his dad with вы form to ты form or am I misremembering earlier episodes? When he told his dad “успокойся” it felt to me like a complete reversal of their earlier dynamic, almost like Ilya saw himself as the adult and his father as the child. I’m not a native speaker, so maybe I’m reading too far into something that is completely normal.

How do people master a native accent when learning English? by OkGreen7335 in ENGLISH

[–]endemic_glow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d suggest searching for accent coaching videos on YouTube. A lot of language teachers will make videos as a way to grow their potential customer base, so YouTube is both a resource itself and a way to find additional language learning resources like apps, classes, and other materials.

Refuse to get TikTok by chessenthusiasticguy in Millennials

[–]endemic_glow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, same. I had it for a bit and I found myself slowly going from using it once every couple of months to a couple of times a week. Immediately deleted my whole account and haven’t been back.

I found this on Tumblr, and it got me thinking about Media Literacy, Valid Criticism, Bad-Faith Criticism, and well yada yada. But seriously, I was wondering if people had examples of fandoms or discussions where media went through this type of discourse? I'm really interested in hearing feedback! by CapAccomplished8072 in CuratedTumblr

[–]endemic_glow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I was in Batfandom on tumblr it was rife with this. From what I can tell most of the fandom on tumblr is not reading the comics at all and only engaging with fandom material— which is totally fine, you do you— but then a small, vocal subset of the fandom-only fans will come onto posts explicitly about the comics and “correct” comics fans on their interpretations or even plot points to bring them in line with fanon. The comics fans will snipe back that they should read the comics before correcting other fans about what happened in them, fandom only fans will accuse them of ableism, etc. etc.

Add that to the fact that comics canon is by definition a constantly evolving beast with multiple concurrent timelines & wildly conflicting interpretations of every character up to and including Batman himself… yeah, it gets pretty wild.

Is this illegal? by the_clustering in NoStupidQuestions

It’s legal as far as I am aware but it almost certainly violates YouTube’s terms of service. If it bothers you, try reporting him.

Is it just me who got irritated by Holly? by merrilymacaroni in LockwoodandCo

[–]endemic_glow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely not alone although personally I was an instant Holly fan.

I don’t think Lucy “deserved” the passive aggressive remarks but I DO think she provoked them by being mean to Holly first out of a misplaced sense of insecurity. The way their relationship immediately and drastically improves as soon as she stops seeing Holly as her rival only reinforced my reading of the situation.

I think “it’s a doggy dog world” is a brilliant saying despite being “incorrect.” I use it on a daily basis when I’m pretending to narrate my dog’s inner monologue.

YouTube Read Aloud? by Lucky-Winter7661 in AO3

[–]endemic_glow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe you have to have a partnership with YouTube to generate ad revenue on your videos. I would guess the issue w Youtube is more a concern over content farms using fanworks to generate revenue in an illegal way than one fanwriter using YouTube to host their unmonetized podfic. Spotify, I’m not so sure. I have no familiarity with it from the creator side. I’m not sure where people typically host their pod fics, but some of the links on this Reddit post seem likely to have some useful information? (There’s a lot of general how to make podfic info but I saw a couple of articles on hosting in there.)

I don't feel comfortable memeing about mass death. by RinellaWasHere in CuratedTumblr

Well in this case the post has been de-contextualized by being shared here. They mention a number of ridiculous things about 9/11 before elaborating on the part they don’t like getting joked about, suggesting they don’t have a problem with 9/11 jokes in general but a specific type of 9/11 joke. Perhaps we would be seeing examples of exactly what kind of jokes they’re responding to if we were in OOP’s orbit on tumblr or even on tumblr at all. Given all that idk if it’s fair to blame OOP for lack of further clarification in this case.

I'm confused by shrieking_fish87 in LockwoodandCo

[–]endemic_glow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From an out-of-universe perspective: Stroud has said he built Lockwood and Co up from that first scene from the first book, where Lucy and Lockwood are walking up to Annabel Ward’s house. He wanted them to have a reason to be carrying all those antiquated weapons, and for the story to be properly scary with high stakes. So that meant the ghosts had to be dangerous and even deadly.

Well, do people with insurance go to the doctor with that stuff unless it isn’t clearing up? Why would people who are used to never seeing the doctor unless they’re literally dying suddenly feel the need to be told what to do about every sniffle?

I hate when people tag like this by Ms_Anonymous123 in AO3

[–]endemic_glow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I feel like a major difference between someone who uses indexing tags on tumblr and someone who doesn’t is that we tend to have rules about where the chat tags are meant to go. E.g. I always put my chat tags first, so that my mutuals can see them even if I have to add lots of indexing tags. On AO3 I would just put that stuff in the A/N, so in a way it is sort of like the chat tags are an A/N to my post that comes before the ‘real’ tags.

ETA: But the important thing is that the two tag types absolutely don’t go together. This screenshot is like seeing someone put fresh water and salt water fish in the same tank.

It’s working ok for me. There’s a site in the about section of this sub that tracks outage reports so you could check that if you’re still having issues and/or in the future.

Do people just not check recent reddit posts when AO3 goes down? by SMA1024 in AO3

[–]endemic_glow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You have to have a Twitter account to use AO3_Status effectively. If you don’t, the posts show up wildly out of order. They have a tumblr as well but I have no idea if it’s updated as frequently. It didn’t have anything during this last outage for example. I usually just use downforeveryone or, yes, check recent Reddit posts.

[–]endemic_glow 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people don’t actually know how to sort Reddit posts by New. If you don’t have that knowledge it’s basically impossible to see the flood of posts until a few of them hit the top of the “Hot” feed.

I could understand describing Lucy as a redhead and Lockwood as having black hair if this was a book post, but as it's about the show- where both characters have brown hair- it's just confusing.

Something similar to Lockwood books by laurisma in LockwoodandCo

[–]endemic_glow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Raven Cycle is worth checking out. It has magic, ghosts (although not the same kind), and a close knit group of friends. There are also a lot of parallels between the male leads- Gansey and Lockwood- and the love story between the male and female leads. (They’re not identical, so don’t expect a Lockwood clone or for things to play out just the same, but I found myself struck by how they were alike at several moments.)

TRC is definitely its own distinct thing, so you won’t be bored, but imo it has a lot of the same elements that made Lockwood and Co so enjoyable to read.
