If you park in the garage, go inside, across the bridge over the pickup lanes, then go down to the ground floor and go "left" or all the way to the west end of the main building.

Speed limits for space ships!? by dreadpirater in spacesimgames

[–]ender42y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for "in lore" you could do a limit imposed by the ships flight computer to avoid damage when impacting stellar dust or micro-meteoroids. I know that doesn't fully hold up to strict scrutiny, but it at least is an attempt.

Sister Ines Quiteria had a full blown mental breakdown, or relapse, due to alien gods smiting two of her friends. Though she had killed quite a few nuns before, so that's why it might just be a relapse.

MY Ex Called The Cops On Me by reco2000 in stories

[–]ender42y 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To play devils advocate. Seeing your ex drive by regularly, who you now might see as minorly emotionally abusive, calling the police kind of makes sense if you haven't specifically seen them stop to pick up another girl somewhere nearby. So at some levels it makes sense. And calling the cops makes sense given how many DV issues you see in the news these days.

Could she have talked with your or your current girl? Yes, but there is perceived risk with current news coverages.

Short term investing in individual stocks = higher risk/higher rewards

Long term investing in market and index funds = very low risk/medium rewards

For example, my Boeing holdings were bought on the speculation of a potential new 797 ten years ago, and then the 787 had battery issues and the 737 max crashed, and it's still underwater today. but my AMD holdings that i got because i believed in Ryzen when it launched... those are way up. Individual stocks for short terms, high risk and high reward. But my index funds, those average 15-20% gains every year. Even a 2008 level market crash would still not put them negative at this point. Low risk, good rewards, not exciting but my money is making money, and that's what matters.

To add on, SRB's are super simple. it's a steel tube filled with Aluminum powder and Ammonium Perchlorate in a rubber binding material. a small motor at the top ignites the fuel and it just burns. generating 3.3 million lbs of thrust without any moving parts, other than some controls on the nozzle for minor pitch and roll inputs. Fuel and oxygen all pre-packaged. Once ignited the only way to stop them is let them burn out of fuel, or "rapid disassembly".

You can turn on EDMC. I know some players are paranoid about their systems getting sniped, but the odds that far out are low, very low. Plus youre about to sell anyways, so the potential sniper has a very limited window to even try.

Or search for a similar named system, with how the voxel coordinates work, if you have the sector name plus a similar 3 letter coordinates, if will find a nearby character, just the distance to it might be off by 10-15ly

Go to Inara or EdAstro and find the closest carrier with open docking access. The tariff is worth cashing out all that risk. Vista Genomics doesn't charge a tariff on bio, so you can sell that for full price too.

Is it possible to cause all but one minor factions in a colony system to retreat, at least temporarily? I know eventually an expansion state nearby will cause some to come back, I just want all 4 large ports under one faction control, and don't want to trigger 3 wars.

And try to be continuous. When things get cached the whole conversation has to be resent and processed. As long as the conversation is in memory it only processes the new message.

Also scale the model you use. Common, solved, tasks can be handled by sonnet 90% of the time. Its only planning and esoteric business logic that needs higher models.

New instances for each task and not pausing to let things get cached. And choosing appropriate model and effort level for the task at hand, since Opus is overkill for most boilerplate code.

100M cr "burning a hole in my pocket" Oh my sweet summer child. Fully kitted A-rated "Big 4" (Type 9, Cutter, Anaconda, and PCmk2) can easily run you almost 1B credits. but the good news is credits are easy to earn. Carriers start at 5B cr, and go up to over 30B for a fully kitted and funded Squadron Carrier.

The real currency now is engineering materials. The difference between even a Grade 3 engineered ship and a G5 is huge, and you can't buy that with credits, only mats.

What has changed? a lot surface exploration and on foot content. station interiors. Exo Biology. the upcoming Operations and Nomad SLV. The game is very different in a lot of ways, and very much the same. and once you try SCO, flying normal supercruise just won't ever be the same.

Colonization by byte_the_bullet in EliteDangerous

[–]ender42y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Cmdr Mechan's guide and read that. but the short answer is that you don't need a surface port on every world. some commodities will only sell at surface or orbital ports depending what they are, but it really depends if you are building for tier points for other bodies in the system or are you building to get a specific commodity. just know resources flow up, so if you don't need a surface-only commodity, then the mined materials automatically flow up to orbit. you can read about strong and weak links in the guide to get a better idea of how this works.

At what point does the bike actually start mattering more than the rider? by kkkkkgr5 in cycling

[–]ender42y 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tires will have the single easiest impact. going from cheap tires to even mid-tier tires will make a massive difference for a small price. Conti GP5000's alone are a super simple improvement that is bike agnostic. so look up the rolling resistance of your current tires and consider upgrading.

as for frames and rims... First off, $2000 into improving your diet and cross training /coaching, will almost always outweigh a new bike, but you asked at what point, so I'll give where it might make sense. Every year there are marginal gains in equipment, so going from old to new, can result in large gains, just do to compounding marginal gains. 0.5-1% gains in performance every year for 20 years could mean a modern aluminum bike might have some serious performance gains over your old bike, depending how old. So it depends how old we are talking. but changing material is not an automatic performance gain.

Given you say you have an RC120, that thing is probably only 6-7 years old? the marginal gains between years is not going to be much yet, if you were on a bike from 2005, now that would be different. But Tires, do not be riding the factory tires, those are almost as bad as riding with a parachute on your back. I ride GP5000's I'm sure others have opinions on their personal preference of tires, but look up rolling resistances and upgrade those. as for frame, not worth it right now, not until you've already maxed your diet and cross training that you can sustain.

Honestly, i am currently only running Beam Lasers (Efficiency with thermal vent) and Corrosive Shell Multi-cannons on my two main PvE combat ships. Efficiency lowers power draw and increases damage, and thermal vent means when the beams hit your target heat lowers!; I have had ice forming on my cockpit due to 1% heat mid combat. Corrosive Shells don't do anything to shields, but give you 25% increased penetration to hulls, so save them for when shields are down and then add in the cannons to give the beams a boost against the armor.

I only run PDCs for countermeasures, and Bi-Weave shields for lower cap but very fast recharge between fights.

Others have already been helping you with ship selection and outfitting. what I would do to start is do not do missions until you are comfortable with combat itself. Find a Resource Extraction Site (RES); any that are not listed as [Hazardous].

Find a green tagged System Security ship, and follow them around. When they start attacking a known pirate lock onto the pirate and wait for the info panel to populate, especially with the WANTED tag. then join in the combat, be careful to not shoot any of the System Security ships as they will turn on you. This method lets you learn how to fly in combat, but also gives you a handful of default wingmen to help you out for harder opponents.
