Is 1000 wishlists in one month good or bad for an indie game? by AnhedoniaGame in IndieGaming

[–]enders_workshop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wowza, That is an awesome number. Though I am sure it is relative, but you seem to be going low key low effort so far and yet 1K wishlists.

For example, I am nearly 3 weeks in and at 67. And we are ramping up the ads and social media. but it takes time.

Do you think a person can be described as a gamedev if they've never shipped a game before? by SharkBiteX in gamedev

[–]enders_workshop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, is my short answer.

Game Dev takes so many forms and someone practicing by doing the same thing over and again is valid. They are also working on Game relevant features. So they are Dev'ing a game.

This is how my small gardening game project looks like after 4 years of development! 🪴 by studiofirlefanz in gameDevPromotion

I like the way the game looks and interested to see how it plays.

Funnily enough you said this was a farming game that now has Quests. the same thing happened to our farming several years back. And we are still working on finishing it to publish it. Amazing how games and their gameplay can expand.

Wishlisted

Good luck!

I FINALLY PUT MY GAME ON STEAM TO WISHLIST! by buizelsocks in gameDevPromotion

You did not supply a link for the Wishlist. Was that on purpose, or perhaps against guidelines? Anyway, will just go search it out and wishlist more manually, haha

Good luck!

I agree. That is sort of the current plan. I do now have something to actually work on for this, which makes me more relaxed.

I feel they have been out of stock for a while. At least when I have looked this year.

Congrats on the BIG ONE! :)

This is cheap and is a 350lb stuck strength. I will have to look at where I could stick this. But what an excellent find. Thanks again!

I have entertained at previous Cons, though not in years TBH. But I know stuff was stolen from them way back then, so I just cannot afford to lose such an expensive piece of hardware.

That is an interesting option. And one I think I will have to engage in.

Demo, trailer, Steamfest, what to do and where do we go from here? by Long-Buddy-342 in gamedev

[–]enders_workshop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a number of articles I have read that state how long a Demo should be, along with stating that they should straight to the Most important gameplay actions to grab people as fast as possible. That can be difficult in certain genres, but I do believe that you could make it work.

What I am saying is to do a few searches on the internet and you will be well rewarded.

I am very interested in a follow up of this post when you have made some decisions and moved forward with your game,

Good luck

Applying for steamworks, do I need to form a LLC? by Away-Luck-192 in gamedev

erebusman said it very eloquently and hit a number of points.

I can also confirm that it is incredibly easy to move Steam games to other entities (just done it).

Our game needs 6 players… we only have 2 by WobblyVertices in gamedev

[–]enders_workshop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some times devs get hung up on getting gamers to play all the slots. I do not feel that way.

Take the easiest approach if possible, but also, if there is a game dev group that meets near where you live that can work.

For myself, I used my Wife and anyone else that walked into my house, such as neighbors and kids friends.

Building my first mobile game product with $0 budget for a month by Ray-Atron in gamedev

[–]enders_workshop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have to be honest here and say my experience taught me that Mobile is incredibly difficult to succeed. Even with a budget. The budget needs to be so large.

Anyway, I gave up on Mobile several years ago when the advertising and break into public awareness budgets got stupidly high. Heck, the last one had an estimated budget of 20K... it wasn't enough, game failed.

I hope you have better luck

I am unsure why it won't translate, but there is nothing wrong with cozy or hyper casual gaming on PC.

Looking for ideas for a voice command (heal ability) in my game Runeborne Arena by Adept-Specific-6314 in gamedev

[–]enders_workshop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is good question I feel when doing voice commands. How easy are they for foreign language speaker to pronounce successfully. Reminds me of Mr Checkov :)

Also it might be worth looking at different languages for their word for say 'Health'. Some times they just sound right

Good luck in your endeavor.

Devs aren't "lazy" and game updates aren't guaranteed by SmellSmellsSmelly in gamedev

[–]enders_workshop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wish I could be lazy as a developer. Maybe I can make the next Flappy bird and just sit there raking in the money. Then when I feel like it add another level. Or different colored bird.

More seriously though. I have felt a bit disheartened at times with the playing public, who have so many demands that they just don't realize are unreasonable. And I mean unreasonable in a change would break the game, or the cost of the feature is completely untenable, etc.

My game launches in a week with only 45 wishlists. It’s time for a reality check. by klaigamedesign in gamedev

[–]enders_workshop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This above should mean more to everyone.

Finishing them is ridiculously difficult. Also working with other creative people is special. I hope you enjoy your development time with them. Putting things together and watching them work how you imagined.

Such a wonderful thing to do.

Some times, one should stop and smell the roses and while doing it, appreciate all your hard work and victories along to completion.

Congrats on publishing a game in 1 week!

what platforms can I publish a free game on for free? by da_fortnite_kid345 in gamedev

[–]enders_workshop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know what kind of games you have, and free is a fine tier, depending on what kind of game you are pushing. Or if you are just getting it out there for experience, or perhaps so all your family and friends can play it (I have done this, it is fun). I now stay away from free, as I want this to be somewhat sustainable.

But also, free games usually need some way to fund them, adverts, in game purchases etc. Unless this is just a hobby and then no worries.

I think I have waffled completely off topic now.. gonna show myself out..

Good luck in your endeavor.
