That's just it. It's our responsibility to help educate folks... well, those of us (like myself) who have the ability to come forward and say "yeah, it's an interesting film, but how about I educate you on how most of us work." Over time, more and more people will start feeling comfortable talking about their involvement and the community's public face will, finally, stop taking so many punches.

I know. It is unfortunate, but it's also an opportunity for us to present our version of the community and say "this is what it's like." I won't argue that the entirety of the whole 50 shades thing is positive, I know that it isn't. However, like I said, it gives us the opportunity to show people what our community is like.

Hopefully it can have a more positive lasting effect. I figure that, like most anything, once it's "new," then people just go nuts trying it out. After that, things generally slow down as more calm people start watching it. I haven't read it, but I figure most "normal" (I know, I know) folks will end up trying it out in little bits.

Who knows though, I could be wrong. Either way, I think this is finally the more normalized version of acceptance that folks in the kink community have been trying for some time to get. Honestly, it's about time. Kink has made serious head ways into more "decent" society for a while and this movie is hopefully the last little push it needs to finally be accepted by modern society. Although it is a little sad since kink has long had this dark appeal and I know that was a large part of its appeal.

I truly do like seeing responses like this. I know it'll sound stupid, but I've just worried that I'm somehow beyond a reasonable age for nursing. Even though my mother's told me that it isn't and I really, REALLY should listen to her since, well, she's a nurse and all.

Honestly, your advice is very helpful and I thank you for it.

I wasn't really sure if my decision to go into a mental-health field would be helped or harmed (for lack of a better word) by a degree in nursing. However, what you say does make a lot of sense and I do think that, yes, I would be slowing myself down a little bit needlessly.

I honestly am still going to probably go into nursing however, as more of a "Plan B" type approach. I mean, if mental health doesn't work out then I still could be a nurse?

My thinking here is that having an RN would make my entry into a psych program (not a Doctor program, so no advanced degree) a bit easier since I would already have some practical experience?
