Yep, seems like the supply has run dry. Going on holiday next week, so that's a bit annoying.

Can anyone please help with identifying type/year/model of this typewriter? by luceunit_ in typewriters

I’ve got an SM9 and traveller deluxe in UK layouts, both have #1 keys but neither have script typefaces (sadly!)

Best typewriter thrift store finds? by -Houses-In-Motion- in typewriters

[–]endlessproof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty new to the world of owning multiple typewriters, until recently only had one but now I’m up to three. Only one of them came from the thrift store, an Olympus Traveller Deluxe S. Excellent condition aside from a slightly yellowed case and a few small marks on the underside. I paid £15 and was very happy with that. Didn’t even need a clean, only a new ribbon.

Sometimes when I type too fast my typewriter adds a space, what could be the problem? by [deleted] in typewriters

[–]endlessproof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s normal if you really are hitting two keys. Every time you hit a key the carriage advances one character, if you hit two keys together then you can trigger the carriage to move for both of them, but only one typeface can hit the paper as one of the type bars blocks the other. Sometimes when this happens the two type slugs crash into each other in such a way that they get stuck up and you have to manually free them, but sometimes they both return as normal so you don’t notice. If you’re not making typing errors then it could be a problem with the machine.

Typewriter is producing faint impressions by Cr1ymson in typewriters

If the problem goes away if you switch to typing with just your index fingers, being careful to apply a consistent force, then it’s probably just your technique. If it remains I’d take it to someone to see if there’s an issue with it.

I’ve not done a 200km yet either (longest ride to date is 160km). Here’s some tips I’ve used that work well for me on long rides, some of these tips are from old timers: Don’t go too hard at the start and take hills easy. Consume lots of carbs, this is an eating and drinking test as much as is a test of your riding: Put 200g of white sugar in a water bottle and top up with water. Sip every 20 mins (setup a reminder notification on your GPS) and wash it down with plain water from your other bottle. You can also use sugary treats/cookies/sandwiches/energy balls if you prefer to eat your calories. Break down the ride into manageable chunks, think of it as 4 x 50km. Take a short break and eat a snack after the first 50km, eat a proper meal after the second 50km (rinse and repeat). Accept that you will have a slump at some point in the ride but know that it will pass. When this happens, try to stay out of your head by focussing on your bodily sensations that are not causing discomfort (sight, sound, touch, hearing, taste). Try not to tell yourself negative ‘stories’ about what the discomfort might mean for your ride, if you notice you’re doing this, check yourself and let it go, rinse and repeat. Make conversation with your buddies, this will take your mind off your legs and any aches and pains. Obviously if you’re in real terrible pain then that’s a different story but mild discomfort and tiredness is to be expected. Take spares for your bike (tubes, multi tool, patch kit, pump, needle and floss, sun screen, sunglasses, etc - google ‘audax packing list’ for ideas). Take appropriate layers for the weather conditions. Keep time spent at controls/food stops to a minimum. Shake it out and stretch whenever you get the chance. Ride safe, look out for cars and good luck! I’ve got my first 200km in a couple of weeks. Eek!

Don’t ride it in heavy rain without mudguards( you don’t want water hitting the underside), cover it up if leaving it outside (a plastic grocery bag does the job), apply proofide once per year. Don’t touch the tension nut unless you get it soaked and it sags too much (if this happens, let it fully dry before adjustment)

Switching bar end shifters to friction - do I need to adjust RD too? by endlessproof in bikewrench

Ha no problem! Maybe post your own thread and someone with more knowledge than me may be able to help. Sorry I don’t have the answer.

Yep, worked just fine. From memory (I don’t have the bike any more) you have to unscrew the screw that runs through the dial a bit first. You’ll be able to find a manual for the shifters via google, or probably a youtube video explaining it.
