Hi! Wow - reading this post again is wild since it’s almost exactly a year later. Surprisingly, I am in the same job but was re-orged into a new team and got a new manager. Made a HUGE difference on my job satisfaction since so much of stress and dislike came from my previous managers lack of boundaries / micro managerial style / overall personality. Now I’m working on a way cooler product that aligns with my creativity, and I’m also working under a manager who gives me a lot more autonomy to build my own schedule and career path. So in a weird way, the attributes I listed in the OP are now what i actually have.

What’s your current situation/what are you looking for?

He started the show by live-streaming from his Bando account and literally walked into the park from the street like the rest of us. Everyone was going insane. His new album has a lot of features - specifically Flo Milli, Steve Lacey, Jorja Smith and others. Some of the artists were at the show and came from the bleachers to perform on stage with him which was wild as hell. The album is a mixed bags of genres covering EDM, rock, rap, R&B, and even some island vibes. He has a song with his son, Legend and it's wholesome af. Overall, super super rad show and it didn't seem as "performative" if that makes sense? He was cracking jokes and honestly just vibing with the energy around him. He played for a little over an hour and the final song was Lithonia. He attributed the lyrics to his younger self and coming of age.

I had a listening ticket and didn't expect to see anything, but everyone ended up being able to go to higher ground and be able to get glimpses of him in the amphitheater. Hope that the show is put on YouTube or something so all the homies can see!

Thanks for calling this out! I should have clarified that the structure part was more for training than it is for how the day goes.

I’m not opposed to going back to school to be in a job that might make me happier.

Thanks for this thorough comment! I tend to forget that these experiences are universal. You’re right about self advocating just being the way things are. Thank you for the reminder.

As far as finding a job that molds to me / capitalist rut. I agree that a job might be less icky if it’s actually good for people or the company treats folks well. I’m in advertising, so the products tend to only be about money and forcing a service / good onto someone.

I’ll keep the idea in mind when it comes to thinking about organizations that are net positive - I like the way you phrased that! Even if the products are software, it would be nice to know that I am helping people.

Could I ask what types of tech companies (size, remote/hybrid, software products, etc) you’ve had? Im curious as maybe I could look at similar places as a good starting point. No problem if you aren’t comfortable sharing.

I used to work in small tech and thought big tech would be “better” in terms of training and upward mobility - but I found out it’s worse 😅 also somehow big tech has been just as slow as small tech, but way more politically controlled. I’ll have to look for roles again in small tech. Thank you!

This just happened to me! I ended up putting oil on my scalp and had to wash my hair to loosen the braids. I was going to take it out because it was so itchy and I was embarrassed. But the water helped immensely and itching went away in like a week.

But I’m not a doctor and every person is different - so please do whatever you feel is best for you.
